Previous studies have shown that male attractiveness can be enhanced by manipulation of status through, for example, the medium of costume. The present study experimentally manipulated status by seating the same target model (male and female matched for attractiveness) expressing identical facial expressions and posture in either a ‘high status’ (Silver Bentley Continental GT) or a ‘neutral status’ (Red Ford Fiesta ST) motor-car. A between-subjects design was used whereby the above photographic images were presented to male and female participants for attractiveness rating. Results showed that the male target model was rated as significantly more attractive on a rating scale of 1–10 when presented to female participants in the high compared to the neutral status context. Males were not influenced by status manipulation, as there was no significant difference between attractiveness ratings for the female seated in the high compared to the neutral condition. It would appear that despite a noticeable increase in female ownership of prestige/luxury cars over recent years males, unlike females remain oblivious to such cues in matters pertaining to opposite-sex attraction. These findings support the results of previous status enhancement of attractiveness studies especially those espousing sex differences in mate preferences are due to sex-specific adaptations.

*shrug*An expensive car is a single indication of success. Success is an indication of security. Security is a common basic need for women.
Some thirtythousand dollar millionaire douchebag who works as an assistant manager at J Crew and who drives a leased to the gills 328 might get some 2am play at a nightclub. And if that's all he wants, good for him. But no semi-intelligent woman is going to be attracted to him for more than a couple of weeks. Especially when she sees him trying to dodge his maxed out Chase Visa.

I think the chicks-dig-hot-cars thing is purely regional. At least in DC, having a nice car is considered a serious drawback, and I've been told this by many women in the area. Has something to do with needing attention, compensating for various shortcomings, etc. All bs of course, but no one ever said women were rational beings. Now FL was a different experience...

If you're looking to score with the ladies, a puppy is a LOT more effective than a car. You can quite literally go for a walk in the park with a puppy and approach women cold, and if you don't smell like stank, you're in.
"One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that if you drive into London at 6am, half of the cars on the roads are Porsches and Astons. Whereas if you go in at ten to nine, they’re all Renaults. Simple solution, then. You want a nice car? Get up earlier and do more work." -- Jeremy Clarkson

Nice sedans seem to be universally appreciated among the ladies and I've noticed women that stumble over the difference between Porsche, Ferrari, and Lamborghini are on solid ground when talking about Rolls-Royce, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW.

Going by what my friends here tell me, it seems to be if they drive a Camry or some other boring-arsed car,t hey don't get noticed. I can tell you that seems to be th case. When I was driving my Sciroccos still, I got attention all over the place. When my DD was an Accord... nuttin'. I even got crap from guys for driving a "farking boring car" in some cases. Uhhhhh....? Now I have a convertible again and I seem to be one of the cool girls in town again.
I'm older now and that crap doesn't matter to me
but even with the older guys, they take this kind of stuff a little seriously sometimes.

Huh. I must be one of the weird ones, I couldn't care less what car a girl drives. What's more, I even prefer that they can't drive. Who wants them going all kinds of places by themselves?
I'm gone.
