I have tried to start a Green Bay thread a few times and nobody else shows up. There is a Fox Valley crew that has GTGs but, I haven't attended any of them yet.

Nice 'rocco is it a 16V?

The black GLX is gone and I have a Forester now. The VR6 is going into a Cabrio and should be done for Dubs In The Valley.

Nah its a stock 8v. Its not very quick at the moment but its nimble and a blast to drive. My first car ever was an 84 rocco, sold that and drove other different makes of cars and now im back into a Scirocco for a project car.
My daily driver is a boring ol 91 mercury sable, but its minty with 57K miles on it.

A VR in a cabbie? That should be dirty fast!

Another NE WI member here. Doesn't seem to be as strong a draw as the other parts of WI. I tried a spotted thread and didn't get any replies. Oh well.

I'm still learning what parts I can use from other jettas and golfs yet but If i remember right there's a lot of things I could use from MKII's....but I dont know exactly what.

Ive been wanting a 2.0L or a 1.8L bottom end from what I believe is the ABA engine If I remember right it goes right into my rocco and I can use my 8v head and 1.7l tranny with the larger lower end.
I just wanted to rebuild it on a stand, ya know the usual hone, new pistons/rings/rods/bearings/oil pump. Then Ill have a spare lower end to drop in if anything would happen to my 1.7 in the near future.

well theres also a 88 jetta sitting behind my uncles shop right now. it actually used to be my car! but anyways he's been selling parts off it. i dont know whats left on it but its got a 8v so it might have some parts on it you might need... even mat. parts...

yeah the 2.0 is a ABA from what ive come to find out. both the ones in the mk3's and 4's

Ooo, Depending on condition and all I might be interested in the lower end of that 8v, everything below the head minus the transmission. I took a look and yeah its the ABA engine I need to pick from, the 16v guys take from the 9A engines....
honestly If i could I wouldn't mind doing a complete 9a swap to my car, a lot of rocco guys have done it and all it requires is the complete engine/mounts/wireing/ecu/fuel system... etc etc... Its too big of a job for me personally right now so that's why im starting small by wanting to try an ABA bottom end.

If its just the longblock without the tranny or anything I wouldn't mind. I'm just curious about the engine's lower end, how many miles are on it, if it made any ugly noises when it ran or had any oil pressure issues. As I said above as long as it would be worth rebuilding and isn't totally shot lol.

I also will have to ask the Scirocco crowd about it to make sure I can get what I need to mount that lower end in properly and be sure its the right engine in the first place.

I guess if it does work out my only question is if the engine would fit in the trunk of my mercury sable and I could get it home in that.

Anyway I'm off to bed, night guys.

well i can tell you that the guy that owned it before it sat at the shop had a engine fire in it. i guess the secondary air fuel injection line or something in that lines ruptured. but he took it to my uncles shop and had the work done to it and ran into a snag on finding that line.
so he just gave my uncle the title cause the work was done but not complete.

i've personally looked in the engine bay and theres no sign of any fire.

but i'll find out how many miles-if they know cause i think the odometer stopped working and how much he'd want for the long block. but i think it'd be worth rebuilding.

im sure it prob wont be much if he's willing to sell

oh and yeah the engine will fit in the trunk. its a tiny little thing. i could lift it my self when i was 17 and 40lbs lighter

      granite-
just talked to my uncle today and confirmed that the engine ran before the fire and is in good condition expect for the part they couldnt find to get it running again and he sold the injection system off of it since it was sitting.

he is interested in selling the motor but wants an offer on it... ive looked around and saw the average was around 150 or so. idk what your willing to offer...

if you take the engine im taking the rolling chassis. so basically i need to know what your offer for the engine then i can make him an offer for one the whole thing. IM me or give me a call if you still have my number and we can work out the details.

      granite-
just talked to my uncle today and confirmed that the engine ran before the fire and is in good condition expect for the part they couldnt find to get it running again and he sold the injection system off of it since it was sitting.

he is interested in selling the motor but wants an offer on it... ive looked around and saw the average was around 150 or so. idk what your willing to offer...

if you take the engine im taking the rolling chassis. so basically i need to know what your offer for the engine then i can make him an offer for one the whole thing. IM me or give me a call if you still have my number and we can work out the details.

I posted in my update thread asking a couple of questions concerning mounting that ABA in my engine bay along with mating it to my tranny and head. I wouldn't mind paying around $150 for it if its in good shape and if I can use it in my scirocco most of all. Ill prolly give you a call later tonight

I'm actually in Green Bay right now over on the west side.

Yeah I been looking around online and there's a lot of engine codes for that car haha. It looks like its a 100hp engine or 105hp engine according to an article I read on the 88 jetta base & GL models.
Also while your looking around try and find the manufacturing stamp on the car, im wondering if it was assembled in Germany or Mexico- things seem to point to the German assembled ones being better

just got back... it was too dark and grimy to see it tonight. im going down there tomorrow with a couple of tools to move the coolant lines out of the way and a bottle of carb cleaner!! haha

well as a matter of fact i just found out as im writing this that unfortunately it was made in mexico

its got 3ME stamped on the head and i guess that means it was made in mexico...

it honestly shouldnt be discouraging tho. vw have been made in mexico for a LONG time

Well it wasn't made in mexico, it was just assembled there. Even if it was its no big deal lol I was just curious. A Vdub is A Vdub

Here is a post from my engine question thread about this swap-

Strange, looks like it may not be the original engine. It's got the OG CPR mounting plate. Best idea is to scrape the crud off & check the engine code. JH, JN, GX or MZ is low compression. HT, RD PF, or RV is high compression.

Hopefully its a high compression engine, I have a feeling it is otherwise i dont think it would have that knock sensor on it hehe.
