    Just the Facts:

    * Mazda will unveil a locally produced version of the Mazda 8 minivan later this month at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show.
    * The vehicle, known in Japan as the Mazda MPV, will be assembled in China with local partner FAW.

HIROSHIMA, Japan — Mazda will unveil a locally produced version of the Mazda 8 minivan later this month at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show. The vehicle, known in Japan as the Mazda MPV, will be assembled in China with local partner FAW.

Mazda also will bring to the Beijing show its portfolio of next-generation SKY engines, including the SKY-G direct-injection gasoline unit and SKY-D clean diesel.

Inside Line says: Mazda could find it tough to crack the Chinese midsize people-mover market, which is dominated by such strong entries as the Buick GL8, the Honda Odyssey and the JAC Refine. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

Almost has a Cruze-esque vibe to the front. I quite like it though, seems to be a little different than the bloated boat look the other Japanese minivans have.

I'm actually kind of surprised that they aren't bringing this to Canada. The old MPVs are everywhere here. The size and price was a winning combo for Canadian buyers.

Dude, it's a minivan that looks like a stunted Chevrolet Traverse. The CX-9 isn't a paragon of secks, but this isn't precisely forbidden fruit. It's forbidden brussels sprouts.

I read "8" and was hoping to come in and see a 929 or Millenia esque vehicle.

Me too. And it would make sense, given China's obsession with large sedans.

    We bought one too.

It's been great, save for its inability to keep rear tires and intermittent oil consumption.

I think the MPV is actually in the top two or three for most popular conventional Minivans on TCL.

Which we all know means doom in the U.S. market.

ours is an 05 w/ 75k. it doesn't have those problems but it has that annoying clunking sound in the winter

we're going to hang onto it as long as we can. my wife really likes it but i think she's ready to move onto a CX-9 or similar

i just like not having a car payment

But would it slot between the CX7 and CX9?

No, but it will slot in between Mazda5 and a Ford Flex quite nicely
