On my way to work this morning I saw a 1st-gen Lexus LS400 w/ cloth seats. I honestly had no idea you could even get cloth seating on any generation of the LS. I do seem to remember base models of the ES and RX being offered w/ cloth at one point, but I never knew about the LS.

What other luxury cars made within the last 15-20 years were available with cloth seats in North America?

      Rule#1:

I'd imagine there are quite a few domestic luxury cars available with cloth (Buicks, Oldsmobiles, maybe even Caddilacs).

Yeah, after I posted I thought of that. There are probably quite a few domestics w/ cloth.

How about imports though? It seems pretty rare.

Back when I was in high school, my friend's parents had a 1990 LS400 with the cloth interior, but it was an awful burgundy color.

You could get cloth in 1990s Audi 100/200/A6 models.

Go back in time to the late 80s and early 90s and you'll find them. Actually in the late 80s was when leather became a popular option on mainstream cars, making it a requirement on luxury cars. Before that leather was just an option.

Understood....which is why I said within the last 15-20 years.

As recent as 2002, you could have ordered an Audi A4 with cloth seats. It was a no cost option instead of leatherette but it was a special order only item... dealers were not allowed to order one for their inventory. I honestly don't know how many were sold but I'm guessing less than a handful. That option went away in 2003 model year.

a cloth interior A4 made it all the way to 2007, it was available in 2008 but unlikely any made it as they brought out the SE model which came with leather standard and there were only two allocations before the SE was the only 2.0T A4 you could order in 2008 (Leather was standard in the 3.2 model)

i'm sure there were a few 5er bmw's kicking around with cloth--may have been an e28/e34 thing though.

i have for sure seen PLENTY of audi a100/200/5000/a6 cars with cloth though, i prefer the cloth as it holds up better. for some reason though, the 80/90's leather is MUCH better though. hmmmm.

i once owned an acura rl with cloth interior, 1996 model year.

there was the hyundai xg350 with cloth as well that i had for three days before trading it for a 1993 lexus sc300 (which had cloth as well, and the 5spd).

i've never had a "luxury car' with leather, i only seem to find the cloth ones.

You were able to order a complete stripper Audi Q7 with cloth back in '07. Didn't even have the full color MMI, just the half red pixeled one.

The previous gen RX was also availble with it

I wish you could still get sweet plaid interiors in luxury cars like you could on 70s Mercedes Benzes.

'94 850CSi with cloth. Though, I believe this was the only one to ever come with cloth and the only one painted in this color.

In Canada these cars come with cloth as standard equipment.

Up until 2009 at least. Not sure on 2010 models.

You can still order Lexus models with cloth. My old roommate's dad hates leather with a passion and has had a RX300, a RX330 and a RX350 with cloth.

It's funny that you mention this.. Little known fact outside of the luxury gt world: The half cloth seats wear infinitely better then their full leather counterparts... something about the material used

Yep but the luxury gt's "cloths" are really half cloth/half leather so one would think the bolsters would wear just as bad as the full leathers when in reality they barely wear at all

Correct. BMW calls it "speed cloth." I wouldn't mind the material as centers in my M's seats, as cloth does offer better grip during aggressive manuevering.

I parked behind a Volvo 850 wagon today. so it's pushing the 10 year barrier, but it had cloth seats.

nice cloth too. like I would GLADLY take that high quality cloth over some maker's leather anyday.

850's have really nice cloth. I dont think you can get the Turbo models with cloth, they were all leather. The non turbo cars were availa with cloth and the R line had alacantra/leather mix.
