a LONG time ago we used to have an IRC chat channel for the Vortex...
Figured I'd give it a go.

    Direct Mibbit Client

    or try this:
http://www.geekshed.net/chat/ (doesn't seem to like Chrome though)
when it launches, put in your name and type:
    /join #tcl
    hit enter, and you'll arrive.

Additionally, you can sign up for a mibbit account (which is free)
Once in there, click 'Channels' at the top.
Put "irc.geekshed.net" for the server and "#tcl" for the channel and check 'auto-connect'.
    Then click Connect Now.
    Then 'save and close'
When you use mibbit.com/chat you get to see the topic and you can customize everything however you like. Also, if you don't want to see the ads... adblock on Chrome and Firefox block them. It's a simple google banner ad.

If Mibbit chat isn't working try:
The Mibbit Widget (advanced IRC commands don't work with the widget)
    or
    http://www.bratschi.net/cbirc/

    type irc.geekshed.net for server
    type #tcl for channel

You can change your nick by typing: /nick WhateverYouWant
You can register your nick in the Chatroom by typing: /msg NickServ register Password YourEmailAddress.

If you'd like to download an IRC client, check here for a comparison:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari...y_Chat_clients

I personally use xchat.org, Trillian or mIRC

    so, just read them

    basically, don't flood the chatroom
don't try to pad the stats server by posting useless crap
    Don't be a jerk

I'm not sure I'm ready to talk to you people any more than I already do.

I can bother you in realtime though!

I'm also curious to see how quickly this comes apart at the seams

Didn't someone put up something like this around the 24HdLM last year? I remember trying to chat, listen to radio le Mans, and wait for the Sham-Wow commercial to finish on Speed around 3am..

yeah, but it doesn't list active users and is generally a bit dead.

How does this work? I am old, crabby, lazy and, unwilling to readily adapt to new things. I don't have Myspace, Facebook, Twatter, AIM or anything like that.

I do have Yahoo Messenger through my email so I can chat with the old lady in her cubicle though.

Buy your little enthusiast a Ferrari bike from me.

It is primarily "old" people who are going to be familiar with IRC channels. It is just a simple "chatroom", where everyone posts in real time.
