      Launched in 1983, the crisply designed and spacious Uno supermini was a huge hit for Fiat.
      Sources say the new model is based on a shortened and simplified version of the Grande Punto platform. It should be around 3.8 metres long, which would make it a similar size to the Mazda 2. However, the design will focus on interior space in a bid to deliver more room than any similar-priced rival.
      It's thought that the new car will be priced very aggressively, but there's no news yet as to whether it will be launched in the UK.
      However, in the face of huge competition from Korean brands and the gaping hole between the Panda and Grande Punto, Fiat could achieve significant success with the Uno in Europe and Russia.
      From the photos of these early production versions of the new Uno, it's clear that Fiat has moved away from the design language of the Punto and original Uno and produced a much more curvaceous, friendly-looking car.
      There are also strong shades of the Panda around the upright tailgate and vertical tail-lights. The three offset slots in the nose are a reference to the original Panda.
      These scoop shots also appear to show that the Uno will be sold in entry-level, upmarket sporting and pseudo-SUV guises.
      There's little news on engines, but it's thought that the sophisticated new Multiair units will be too expensive for all but the range-topping models.
      The Uno is initially being built at Fiat Brazil's Betim plant. The factory has recently announced plans to hire 1000 new workers and boost output by six per cent to 3200 cars per day.
      The entire Fiat Group is poised to announce its future product plans up until 2014 this Wednesday.

      Wow. That lacks the flair of the original....by some margin. More like a cheap 'world' car.

      I reckon this will get to Europe eventually, possibly as a Panda replacement.

      Minority report here, but I think it's pretty cool. It's got some Soul/Cube personality without being too out there, and it looks to be pretty space efficient. Sure kicks the **** out of the Palio.
      Wonder if Fiat do Brasil will do up an Adventure variant?

      The new Palio (internally know as project 326) will be released next year as 2012 model and will be completelly new, also based on the new Uno platform (which is a modified Panda/500 platform and not based on the Grande Punto).
      These are the new Uno versions:
      Way (1.0 and 1.4 engines, the "Adventure" trim for Unos and Milles):


      Vivace (1.0 engine):


      Attractive (1.4 engine, optional bodykit and stripes to try to cater to people who like the 500 but can't afford one as the 1.4 Sport is more than US$ 40k here and the few gray-market Abarths cost more than US$ 85k):

      For those who say it's extremelly ugly and cheap looking, it's because it IS cheap. It will be one of the cheapest cars in Brazil (and the only completelly new cheap car as the other ones are facelifts from 15-20 year old cars), costing almost 1/3 of the price of a 500 Sport 1.4.
      We pay more than 46% taxes on natinally made cars and 120% on imported cars and the profit margins are very high (around 35% on each car), so if it's gonna cost US$ 17k here, expect it to cost around US$ 6-7k in Europe if it goes on sale there.
