How is that boost gauge mounted on the WRX?
It's that time again!
These came in the mail:
So I took them here:
Where I met Robbie from StopTech. He is the Application Engineer. Basically, he gets to engineer the stop tech kits for all the cars they're interested in putting brake kits on.
First we had to measure the stopping power of the OE brakes. To do that we wired her up with all the needed vBox accessories:
After that it was time for Robbie to get to work:
1/2 way done:
OEM on right vs ST-40 on left:
I left Robbie to do his work and wandered around the grounds.
M5 V10 swapped 328i:
I couldn't get better pictures since it was packed in with all the other cars.
Hack job 1994 325i:
The guy that brought it in claimed he has spent nearly 35K () on it so far... Not sure on what, but whatever it was, he should have spent it elsewhere.
By that time Robbie had finished bleeding the brakes and putting everything back together:
Admiring his work:
Impromptue quick shoot:
More legit pics to come.
Big thanks to MTS, to StopTech and especially to Robbie for his hard work today.
The new kit should be available in about a week.
They will not fit behind stock without a 12.5mm spacer. I faced this situation and decided to just get the wheels I wanted to really show off the brakes anyway.
Cool thanks for the info. I've been trying to see if there was a BBK that fits behind the factories but maybe there isn't. My summer wheels are also 18's and I suppose if I upgrade brakes, running a spacer isn't the end of the world.
I wonder if there are even any kits out there that fit behind factories. Again, looks sweet.
Do you drive your car in the winter or are you planning on going back to stock soon?
My car will not be daily driven in the winter but it will see snow every now and again when I rip some midnight doughnuts in it.
Stock brakes are being sold. There will be no going back! I have ultra performance all seasons so I won't need to go back to have excellent wet / cold weather traction.
I need to get my rubbing issues sorted out (that sounds like a personal problem, but really, it's not ) and then it's road course time!
It looks like we're supposed to be getting some snow this weekend. Time to head to Dick's Sporting Goods and get some little orange soccer cones to setup a snow auto x course in a local parking lot and have at it!
I am excited to see how the Haldex does in the different modes.
Thanks everyone for all the complements. I couldn't be happier with the way she has turned out. Just a couple more CF bits here and there and I'll be done. Major mods are done... for now.
Thanks for the complements everyone!
I think at this point I want to get a CF lower valance from OSIR and some brushed mirror caps.
Other than that, I am pretty much out of ideas. I don't really want to spend the $$$ for cams as it just doesn't seem worth it. Can't go FI as I am moving to CA, so I think, at this point she is done.
But your right not to do cams without some kind of emission specs with cams installed.
NICE BBK echo, may i ask how come you change it? If its stop force then we all know, stocks are sufficient for daily. If its for track then upgrade pads, lines and fluid, it'll be stopping monster. Or you just wanted to for aesthetics and you're baller. Either way,
Robbie no doubt has an awesome job. I took him out to lunch between bedding in the brakes and performance testing (let the brakes cool some) and got him to talk a bit out some of the cars he has worked on and gotten to flog. Pretty awesome for sure.
RE the side markers: I don't like the clears and the color match isn't good enough on the ones that I have seen so I would just rather leave it orange.
In my crazy-messed up head. A proper performance car has more than 1 pot brakes. I know the R isn't that car, but I like to pretend it is with my fast shifting paddle gears and awesome exhaust note, so to me, this kit was a no-brainer.
awesome and awesomer.
you said you have ultra A/S tires... are those the Contis mounted in the brake pics above? if so, are they DW or DWS? hard to tell, but i'm guessing DW. how you likey?
EDIT: DW are summer, i guess those are DWS then?

Traction wise they have been fantastic. They offer enough road feel for me to know what is going but aren't loud or harsh.
I actually like them enough to get a set installed on my WRX instead of the stock summer performance tires.
Dyno day, recap:
Some of the other awesomeness:
B5S4 with epic status getting race fuel before dyno time:
He was writing his own ECU code as well as running some gt28r turbos.
I have a dyno run for that car too, but youtube is taking its time.
Next up, the Audi R8 with the StaSSis supercharger kit:
Only did two runs. The first run was 443 awhp and 380 awtq. Second run it suffered from epic heat soak and was ~100 hp and tq down for the next run.
S4 Avant: This thing has to be the loudest car of the day. Full custom exhaust including headers.
This shop seemed to do a little of everything. They had all kinds of cars there. This one happened to catch my eye:
I got up for a closer look and :
Makes 585 whp and the same torque! Nuts.
