Jealous.....hope you have another round in the 70's!
Shot 83. What a beautiful course. The club house is gorgeous. Got lucky and found the green on 17 off the tee. I was the only one in the group, so I tee'd up another and hit it in the drink just so I said I did lol. There was also some enormous traps there that I hadn't had a clue about.
Saw Tiger as well. Didn't realize the Players is this weekend, don't follow the PGA much, but I really enjoy the Ryder Cup. Course was shut down to the public, and I guess it has been for a while.
It wouldn't have been worth it if I had to pay, it was something ridiculous like $300 bucks I think. Have plans to come back in the fall and use another guest pass though.

Modified by guppy3488 at 12:17 AM 5-4-2010I actually am surprised that they're letting people go out with the big boys coming in this weekend. And not that TPC ever 'slacks' off but playing courses in tourney shape is amazing. I'd pay $300 to play TPC Sawgrass. Id pay $5000 to play Augusta. And I'm broke.
My story is funny, I played golf/baseball in jr high and high school and spent half of the golf season fighting my slice from my baseball swing. Well I quit both sports before my junior year of HS and then picked golf up in college again. I guess I grew/didn't have baseball stuff because I went from high 80's low 90's in HS to usually around 82, down to the 76 range or so.I was playing Titleist 690.CB's then and since medical school has hit, I just dont have the time to work my swing and play players irons. There's a couple guys in my class that played straight blades and just can't stand going out for the round we get ever 6 weeks or so. Last year I picked up some TaylorMade R7 (regular, not draw or TP) irons, which are great for people who have a fundamentally good swing but don't have the time to devote. You can work the ball and they're forgiving enough. I really was impressed by them.
My current bag:
Titleist 905D1 9.5*
Walmart Adams 13* fairway (with Aldila NV75...for $20 at Walmart of all places)
TaylorMade R7 3-PW
Titleist Raw 52*, 58*and a crappy Blade putter that I can never seem to get rid of.
I want to swtich from a 58* to a proper 56*.

heh - let's turn this into a "What's in your bag" thread![]()
You guys will get a good laugh at my sticks -
Driver - Ping G5
3-wood - Callaway Warbird (you'll never take that out of my hands, even if it is almost 20 years old)
5-wood - build-your-own golfsmith...love the damn thing
3-PW - Callaway X-14 Pro Series (had them for almost 10 years now...funny, they just got a nod in the April edition of Golf Digest for being an old club that still can hold a candle to the new stuff out there)
SW - Ping Eye2 Beryllium Copper (oh noes...square grooves)
LW - some crappy Mizuno
Putter - alternate between a Ping Zing 2 Beryllium Copper and an Odyssey White Hot #2 Center Shaft
I love all cars, I just happen to own a few pieces of german crap at the moment.

Driver - Titleist 975D 9.5*
2 Warrior Hybrids 24*, 17*
3-LW - Warrior Custom Golf Tomahawk Plus IronsPutter - Odyssey White Hot 2-ball
I would recommend the Warriors to anyone. I had some Nike irons that I could never get the feel for, the local pro recommended the Warriors. I got measured, and they all came custom cut. They have great response and feel super soft with the steel shaft. I have two sets of them now.
I played competitively in high school shooting 36-40 on 9, and right around 80 for 18.

Driver: Cleveland Launcher 360ti (I honestly cant remember loft)
3w: Acer ancient something another
3-PW- Wilson Staff Ci6
56* Vokey Clone WedgePutter is a blade, its super old, twin sided no branding at all... I've had it forever and has been reshafted at least 3 times as I've progressively needed it longer as I grew up.

I'm back to being a hacker. Gives the course super something to do after I play.I started golfing again in late 2001 and played about once a week through the the end of 2002. Shot an 87 at Yale for my last round in 2002. I'm there now with a couple few holes to play.

I'm with Cooper on the last few sentences. lol.I haven't carried a handicap in the last decade, but I'd assume I shoot in the mid 90's. But, I never play a real serious round. My adult a.d.d. keeps my scores from getting too low.
Coop, why do you keep that membership?
#84
I got my very first EAGLE today! Warm up 9 hole round preparing for the tournament next week. 8th hole, par 4, 270 yard dogleg right. Drove the green (and scared the crap out of the hackers in front of us) with the wind in our face so I thought I was short of the hole, but it continued to roll 20 feet past. It was a straight putt down hill. I originally tapped it and thought it was too short but it kept on moving. Slowed and dropped. It was pretty cool. I still have never had a hole in one, but an eagle was pretty cool!

To support Yale; It's a limited membership. It's a fantastic course. I get 15 rounds (points), which I would use if I was closer. If I take someone, I can use two points and pay for their round. So, I usually use three or five points everytime I play. But, I haven't used the full 15 points the past several years. Every year I say that I want to start playing more, but it never works out that way.

Did you guys hear about Erica Blasberg? That's crazy...last I read the police are investigating on whether or not it was a suicide or foul play...
RIP.
#90
No... and thanks for the link. lol. Do you know how hard it is to go to google and paste in her name? That does suck though... 25 year olds don't usually fall over and die. Scary stuff.
Two days til the tournament... and it's supposed to be 82 degrees and no humidity (I live in CA). Perfect day for some golf!

Going to Hilton Head next weekend for the first time. Planning on 32 holes that Friday. Any suggestions?
What's in the bag:
Nicklaus 440cc 10.5 loft Driver with Fujikura shaft
Big Bertha Warbird 3 wood and 5 wood
Adams Tight Lies i-wood 21 degree hybrid (because I can't hit a 3 iron)
Tommy Armour 845 v-31 irons (4-GW) with stiff steel shafts
Precept Tour Premium wedges
Odyssey DFX putter

^I know they're not the same, but my first real set of golf clubs were Tommy Armour 845s Silver Scot's. I used them from about age 10 to 16. I love my Callaway's, but I still to this day regret getting rid of those...
#93
Mine have a bit more cavity back on the longer clubs and progress to blades with the shorter clubs. The Silver Scots did something like that too, right? I'd love to upgrade my irons, but i really can't validate it. These clubs just work for me! My score is a me problem and not a golf club problem. Golf lesson number two is soon!

Nah, the silver scots were all cavity back, but they had progressively less offset as you went down to the shorter clubs. Basically, the 8 iron - PW had no offset.
I remember when the V-31's came out, I was thinking about upgrading to those at the time. I spent a little while last night looking for used sets of my old silver scots. I may just do it, I found a 'very nice' rated set for 119 bucks![]()

Just got done with the scramble. Had a blast and hit some great shots... but overall we couldn't sink any putts so we lost by a good 10 strokes. lol.
Now that I've used my clubs, I can tell you what is in my bag.
R7 10.5 driver- with the green shaft... can't remember the name. lol
R5 3 wood. -
Some crappy OLD callaway 5 wood
Titleist Irons (don't remember the model)
Vokey wedges 56 & 60
Odessey two ball putter.
I hit some wonderful long clubs today, but the short game was hurting. If I could find time to play more, I think I could be decent but that is not happening anytime soon.

anyone ever played any courses in Myrtle Beach? i heard it's one of the best golf resort cities around
#97
They have something like 150 courses, so yeah. I've only played some of the low end courses - Wicked Stick, River Oaks, etc. They're all decent courses, but not what you'd go to Myrtle for.

wow just read this thread amazing that more ppl dont play golf. Cooper i wanna play yale i love that course i live like 25 mins away from it. I usually play at least 3 times a week fri sat sun. I maintain a 5 handicap been as low as a 1 but have been playin inconsistently for the last year or so. One day i shoot 85 the next day ill shoot 70. If ur goin to myrtle play oyester bay its in sunset beach nc. Its like a 20 min drive from the heart of myrtle. the course is always immaculate and the greens are amazing i usually go down there like twice a year. Or if u could try one of the big cat course. leopards paw or panthers run are nice i cant think of the other courses name but it is nice as well. Crow creek is also a pretty nice track. pretty much anywhere u play down there is nice. heres what i have in my bag
Driver- Titliest 907 D1 9.5 degree
5w- Titliest 980f
Irons 3-9- Titliest ap2 with project x shafts
pw- Vokey spin milled
sw- vokey nickel spin milled
Lw- older cleveland but i love it i actually found it in the woods in myrtle beach one year and ill never get rid of it lol
putter- ping lil b belly putter
To the dude with the 136 mph swing speed i only swing like 118 to 125 and hit the ball farther than u its more about ball speed and launch angle than it is about swing speed. But i do beleive u can hit 136 if i swing outta my butt i can hit those numbers but its not practical

I have played 3 times in the last 3 months after not playing for about a year. I'm terrible (all my drives go WAY right and I'm lucky to break 100 with unlimited mulligans) but I always manage to have fun.
