Thread: What are the signs/symptoms of bad control arm bushings?

    1. 04-27-2010 11:20 AM #1
I've noticed that all of my wheels seem to be wearing excessively only on the inside edge. I know this could be an alignment problem, but before I do that I wanted to see if this was a sign of bad control arms. I have no knocking or suspension creaking when driving, however some of the rubber bushings in the front lower control arms is cracking. The car has 194K so it may just be time to replace them, but money is tight and if an alignment will prolong having to replace them, I may have to do that for now, and then tackle the control arms later.

If you're going to change the control arms, do the alignment afterwards

no its not lowered. OEM sport suspension and factory wheels. I was planning to align it after the control arms if they need to be done. This is one of the tires that I think came from the right rear. Not all of them are this bad, but they all have excessive wear on that inside edge similar to the way this one is worn.

Looks like it needs an alignment. Usually bad control arms make squeaking noises when you go over bumps or turn.

Did my control arms about 10k miles ago.
What my control arms did was every time you go over say a speed bump, or a small bump, you get a clunking sound. As if nothing big but just some clunk from the front end. It would also feel a little loose when jacked up in the air.
The picture looks like your victim to a bad alignment

definitely alignment. I havent heard of control arms causing -2 degree camber. Maybe it happens but so far i havent seen it. And camber is adjusted by shifting the cradle, the arms just follow in the motion.
