    Thread: parking brake motor????

    1. 04-29-2010 09:00 PM #1
My boyfriend fried the parking brake motor in my 2006 passat when he replaced the brake pads He knows exactly how to fix it, and the dealer wants 700 bucks to fix it. I know it is an easy fix, and he can do it, but does anyone know where i can find the part??? I need the parking brake motor itself.

Try Paul at Keffer VW, he can give u the emp cost on a new one, or someplace like LKQ has both a 2009 and 2007 passat in their wreaking yard in Webster, MA for a used one...

There are two motors, one at each rear. He may not have rendered them totally unfixable so it would be worth confirming that first. If he did fry the motors somehow, the part number is 3C0998281B. Cost from Parts.com is $245. each. 1stvwparts.com was about $265.

At least you had the sense to come to the Vortex for help. Too bad he didn't before he got too ambitious.

I would still check with Paul @ Keffer VW. He'd got good prices and in NC which means better shipping if you're on the east coast.

      Hello,
im the boyfriend that fried the motor! We ordered the parts from a junk yard down south somewhere. Thanks all for the help, everything was very helpful. Today we noticed that the fuse for the parking brake assist is missing since they gave us the car back, so right now until the part comes in, we are about to put a fuse in and try the old motor back on to see if they are really messing us around! I also hooked the motor up to a battery and the motor spun and sounded fine, but we ordered the part anyway. Any other words of wisdom???
      Thanks

I would purchase Vag com and just run the motor calibration.. it would show you if current is running and then if it passes.

I would buy Vagcom either way. I used it to do my rear brakes.. super easy.

I know it sounds like alot.. it did to me so i tried to save some money and bought a off brand.. 200 bucks.. didnt even connect to my passat.. wasted money.

350 is a lot but you can always sell it if you get ride of your VW... i mean you may lose 100 bucks.. sell it used for 250.. even that may be to low.. anyways.. its pays for itself after the first brake job.

whelp I fried my rear ebrake motors according to the dealer that is.
That's what i get for not fully reading the vortex writeup (or not eating and doing the job slightly dizzy). So, the new brake motors are on their way, does anyone have a writeup on the replacement?

My parking brake was acting up for a bit. I just disconnected the black terminal on the battery for a few seconds and hasn't happened in over 3 months.
