Perfection! Its got a serious ALPINA look to it! no black, just compomotive white or gunmetal or anadized bronze (like the TE37's)

That's what i thought. I just have to hollow out one of the spokes to hide the valve stem.

white and some kind of a red sticker for the compomotive look

Fill in the valve stem hole on the front and drill a new one on the back for stealth mode

    Clark,

Get one of those little Red coffee straws, take out #1 injector (get new heat shield) Shine a light in there and turn the crank slowly, if you look carefully you will be able to see the piston come up then insert the straw, feed it down through the injector/ precup hole then turn crank slowly until the straw stops going up.
    TADA!!! you have TDC!!

You will probably need to rotate the crank back and forth a couple times to find the real TDC but you can find it this way.

Mark the crank now! Center punch and whiteout etc.

    Proced...

Dan knows more about Diesels but on the gassers, the flywheel will only go onto the PP one way (two offset dowel pins) and the PP only goes onto the Crank one way (offset bolt spacing). Is this not the case with Oil Burners?

Oil burners are the same but as Mat mentioned someone may have swapped in a dif flywheel in the past..

A Gasser flywheel will bolt on and give you screwed TDC marks.

Diesels have a MASSIVE weight around the edge of the flywheel compared to a gasser so some people think they should get on and call it a lightened flywheel when in reality the little 1.6 needs that weight.

Take it off and your 1st gear take off will be a blast

Furrrr Reallllls? Why would VW do a different mark on the flywheel, since the cranks are nearly identical and reach TDC at the same point? Stupid Germans! Dey KNOW NUTTING!

    Tell me about it.

I learned when building my mk2, I installed a lightened gasser flywheel and for the life of me I couldnt get it to start. Checked and checked the TDC marks I bet 15 times easy.

Then as I posted above for Clark I pulled #1 injector and did the little Red drinking straw truck and then looked at the flywheel marks... Nowhere to be seen, so I center punched and painted that spot and it fired.

I need to wrap up my headgasket on my TDI and get a headlight installed in my mk3.

yeah apparently. i may just hold off till i get the rest of the car built just so i dont have to pay for another alignment for the record (pun intended) there h&r sports.

so i start my car, it cranks, fires, dies and unless you keep cranking it, it wont start. then when it does it runs rough for about 10 sec and then it clears up. any thoughts on what could be causing this behavior? i was thinking either a dirty cold start injector, or a vaccum leak. am i ? i just put a new rotor and cap and fuel filter in. any ideas?

on an entirely different note, merry christmas to everyone on here! its been a pleasure getting to know and work with you guys this year and i cant thank you enough for your help with either the car or just giving me a place to get out of the house. to a new year and lets hope utard county euros sticks around.

    Agreed bro

Anybody know how to disassemble a mk2 trans? I want to make an engine stand with the bell housing so I can mount an engine on it and start it. Kind of a test stand.

And so I can learn how to replace bad syncros in other trannys I have. food/moneys may be involved.
