      Hello,

The electronic idle air stabilizer valve adjusts the amount of air bypassing the throttle valve to control engine idle speed. Whenever the throttle valve idle switch is closed, the valve receives signals from the control unit based on engine rpm and other inputs. This voltage signal cycles on and off. The ratio of on-time to off-time (duty cycle) determines the position of the valve and how far it is open.
When the idle air stabilizer valve is functioning correctly, it should vibrate and hum slightly whenever the engine is running at idle.

Interested in the Golde sunroof cranks, probably a stupid question that i think i know the answer to but....

Will the 1.8l 16v fit in a 8v without any problems?

When i start my 86 gti it doesn't turn on, so i give it gas, hold the gas in for about 10 seconds than it idles, but even when it idles the car shakes pretty bad and it also dips but than it revs up again, till it warms up. After it warms up a bit it idles fine. Do you think i just need to clean the isv? Thanks in advance.

This for sale ad is not the place to ask me technical questions, please post them in the appropriate forum. If I browse that particular forum, I usually will reply.

But I will answer you here this time.

Sure you can swap in a 1.8L 16v to replace your 8v.
The down pipe on your 86 GTI should be a dual pipe, so your good there.
The trans can be kept, but you'll want the 16v trans.

I'm not an electronic novice, so wiring is not a big deal for me.
Some people are not familiar with schematics, but the Bentley manual does a good job of explaining it.
Though I prefer Mitchell on Demand schematics over the Bentley since they are usually all on a single page, the Bentley spreads it out and it take time to trace a circuit.

If you've never done a swap, make sure you have a single donor vehicle. This way you can get everything you need from one source. It is very important to label the wiring connectors with a description of its function and location. Doing this will make the swap much faster as you don't have to guess or take the time to search in the schematics.

As for your vehicle taking time to start, have you measured fuel pressure?
CIS and CIS-E fuel pumps have a replaceable check valve. This check valve is located at the outlet of the main fuel pump, it just threads on.
The fuel accumulator also has a check valve, but it can only be replaced with a new fuel accumulator, it is not a separate device.

Cold start issues, can be tested following the Bentley manual.
You'll want to verify your thermo time switch is working and operating the cold start valve (use a noid light). Also verify your coolant temp sensor works and that your differential pressure regulator does too. The two are used during cold starts to maintain a smooth idle. Also check your O2 sensor and throttle body switches work.

Again the Bentley manual will have all the information and test equipment needed to verify the various sensors. The Bentley even shows you how to make your own test equipment.

Wow i am so sorry i should have asked

Will the 1.8l 16v ISV fit in a 8v without any problems?

Sorry i was not asking for the engine swap, 3 little not typed letters made you type all that and for that i am sorry man!

Thats why i asked this question

"When i start my 86 gti it doesn't turn on, so i give it gas, hold the gas in for about 10 seconds than it idles, but even when it idles the car shakes pretty bad and it also dips but than it revs up again, till it warms up. After it warms up a bit it idles fine. Do you think i just need to clean the isv? Thanks in advance."

Because i though it was related to the isv. I thought it was a relevant question to your post. Sorry about that.

The 1.8L 16v and your 86 Golf have the same exact ISV, same part #.

Cleaning the ISV would be ideal. Make sure it moves freely and vibrates.

If that doesn't solve your issue, consult the Bentley manual and perform tests on the various sensors that I mentioned earlier.

      Best of luck!

2 of them, but one is more faded than the other.
None are perfect, they have seen a lot of sun.

The used ISV is in working order? Or is the history unknown?
