Well it's taken close to a year of hunting, ordering and collecting, but it's all here now! I know, I know, there's been lots of 2.9 build threads, but whatever....

Thats a big parts collection. Good luck with the build, what software or tuning do you plan on running?
Also, when you fit the transmission make sure that the pressure plates outer rivets dont hit the bellhousing. When I did mine I didn't find out until I started the motor![]()

feels good dont it ?so youll pretty much be running n/a? with 11: comp/ratio? or.....? ever since i started my 2.9 build i realized alot of people have been going in and have been boring out their blocksnice! good luck with your build scotty let me know how it goes youll be hearing from my build soon i have to update the thread n get it up here
#10
Yes it does... the only I'm uncertain of at this point is what software to run. I sent off an email to TT yesterday with all the datails, but I hear alot of good things about C2's products also. Any input is welcome, thanks. And btw this will all be packed into my mk2 golf (OBDI electronics - 95 corrado stuff).feels good dont it?

Thought some info/pics as to the reason for the rebuild may be appreciated. Piston rings were worn to the point of burning lots of oil and top compression ring on cylinder 5 was actually broken in half! The cam lobes wer also worn and a couple were pitted. And lastly, I found small pit marks as if something had hit the top of cylinder 3's piston.

I couldn't recover my password from the old forum and had to make a new profile. Lost all my IMs, notes in notepad, etc... 7 years worth down the drain.
#15
that is an impressive pile of WIN sir.
Nice piston choice as well :thumb
#16
holy $hit!!! arent thoses bags from sealership i bet it costed u soo much!!!!
#17
Yes you are correct sir. I work at a BMW dealership but my company owns the VW down the street so it didn't cost me a ton, but yes not cheap. I do admit to getting a little anal when it came to what hardware needed replacement. Looking back I pretty much bought new bolts for anything that mounted to the longblock... ok, ok alot anal...
#18
lol your lucky u work for them. and i do get stingy on what bolt/hardware i use also.
#19
incredible i do envy u sir.
just started my mk2 1.8t build thread, check it out :http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...t-build-thread

Can you do me a huge favor?Scotty_2.0

Can you tell me what side the O2 sensor bung is located on your TT downpipe? Mine is facing the driver's side and it makes for a pretty good stretch of the wiring harness...not really an issue but stock was facing the passenger's side.
Thanks!

You do need to reroute the wiring, it's a bit tight. It scared me a little because it needs to travel over the DP this way to plug in, and I kept thinking the heat would destroy the wiring. I ended up wrapping the exposed wires with thermal tape and tucked it up under that metal heat shield covering the brake line. So far so good...

Now order Estyles Headers and a Copy of Leebro's Medium length Intake Manfild

Stopped by Mississauga Engines today and visited my VR. Valve guide sand seats in cut, bowl work started, block bored and honed, and lower intake ported completely! Can't believe the difference in the lower intake after porting...Hopefully thins should be ready to come home by next week. Killing me driving around town today behind my buddies recent Corrado VR6 purchase in my mk5 rabbit
Carbonio sounds nice on the 2.5, but it's no VR6. Damn it I miss my VR!

#32
I know.....Went to the machine shop today after being told yesterday that it would be ready for me, not so. Can't be too hard on them though considering this weeks 100F temps with crazy humidity in an open shop...
Anyhow, I'll be sure to report back tomorrow night when my baby comes home.

Super clean build! Thank you for the nice write up. Just curious, can you give us some prices as far as the parts and labor go?
#34
Congrats another VR in the 200 club. That 3" exhaust looks amazing, I gotta ask how obnoxious the exhaust is? Ive got a 2.5" and thinking of going 3" with a well placed exhaust tip to cut down on the drone.
#35
3" is pretty loud. Hard to describe it, really have to hear it. There are certain RPM's where it gets quite, usually around 3K, but it is def loud (love the sound though). You can kinda get a sense of it of you listen to my dyno videos on YouTube. My user name is "dubadkt"
