Thread: 98 GTI VR6 Fuse box diagram

    1. 05-08-2010 03:38 PM #1
Can't seem to find my cruise control fuse. Looking for a diagram of the fuse box for my 98 gti vr6. I know this has been posted before, but my link to it is no longer valid. I'd appreciate if someone could post this again or direct me to a link.

      Thanks

      Below Relays

      1 - Headlight, Low Beam Left (56b) 10A
      2 - Headlight, Low Beam Right (56b) 10A
      3 - License Plate Lights (58) 10A
4 - Rear Window Wiper And Washer System 15A
      5 - Windshield Wiper/Washer 15A
      6 - Fresh Air Blower, AC (X) 20A
      7 - Tail Lights, Right (58R) 10A
      8 - Tail Lights, Left (58L) 10A
      9 - Rear Window Defogger 20A
      10 - Fog Lights 15A
      11 - Headlight, High Beam, Left (56a) 10A
      12 - Headlight, High Beam, Right (56a) 10A
      13 - Horn (15) 10A
      14 - Back-Up Lights 10A
      15 - Engine Electronics (15) 10A
      16 - Power Sunroof, Front Map/Reading Light 15A
      17 - Emergency Flashers (15) 10A
18 - Fuel Pump (FP), Heated Oxygen Sensors (HO2S) Control Module 20A
      19 - Coolant Fan, A/C Relay (30) 30A
      20 - Brake Lights (30) 10A
21 - Interior Lights, Clock, Luggage Compartment Light (30) 15A
22 - Cigarette Lighter, Radio, Luggage Compartment Release 10A

      "Hidden" Above Relays

      ABS Hydraulic Pump Relay 30A
      ABS Main Relay 30A
      A/C 30A
      Power Windows 20A
      Cruise Control 5A
      Cigarette Lighter 15A

So if you pull the block down above the relays there are a few fuses. Obviously according to my list your cruise control should be the only 5A fuse up there.

Thanks for the speedy reply Atomix.

I wish there was also a diagram for the fuses above the relays (and maybe for the relays themselves), because there didn't seem to be a 5A up there. Had 2 30s, a 15, and a 10 - none of which were out.

I'd had luck previously removing and reinstalling fuses that weren't blown to apparently improve an electrical contact and was hoping this might bring my cruise control back.

Btw, in case anyone is wondering how to get the fuse box to drop down, there are two white plastic clips located at the base of the fuse box on either side that lift up from the bottom. After you pop these, you should be able to spread the hooks that the round knobs at the base of the box rest on, and then lift the box up and forward.

Well the cruise control on MK3's are known for going to hell. Mine worked once in a while on the long trips to Arizona. I'll pull mine and take a look to see what I've got.

Have you checked for vacuum leaks for the reason it not working?

Would this work also for a 95 vr6?
