mk4 with moonsoon aftermarket headunit install

Hey all need a lil help with installing a kenwood HU in my 04 GLI with the monsoon in it, crutchfield says i need a 129.00 Pac harness, now I saw a link to a DIY on how to bypass this and use a regular harness but now with the new vortex I can not find this link. any help with finding the link or help on how I should go about installing a head unit in my car would be greatly appreciated thanks.

bump, I will be getting my Kenwood Excelon KDC-X994 and really need to know if i can use just a reg 20dollar jetta harness and run other wires to places to get it to work properly, i know i need the antanna adaptor and the dash pocket to cover the hole up thanks.

You can use the regular harness adapter, but you won't get switched ignition or dimmer from it. You can get the switched ignition from the key sense wire in the ignition harness, I believe it's the red and brown wire. This will retain the "radio on until key removed" feature of the OEM deck. As for as I know the Monsoon amp will turn on and off on it's own.

thanks for the input can you get the dimmer from the cig lighter? also any word on a connection going to somthing called 75x and what about retaining vag com function or somthing along the lines of bypassing the radio when using vag com? thanks for the help:bow:

Just do not connect the blue "power antenna" wire from the deck to the blue wire on the car, then the car can be scanned with no problems. I never hooked up a dimmer, so I don't know where to get it.

The 75x terminal will only provide power while the key is in the ON position, useless if you ask me. Just do a google search for "key sense wire" and you should fine a bunch.

so i should be looking for the key sense wire, but the 75x terminal will get the job done right, and this is the harness i will be getting http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT will that work, thanks and steadyhand I will deffinetly report back when the HU is shipped and installed.

Also I am trying to search google for the key sense wire but everything mostly links to the vortex and all the links are dead for now so yea I guess i am winging it haha.

just an update, Got my kenwood head unit today and installed it, everything went smooth, I used Metra 80-9003 70-9003 Wire Harness BMW Audi Volkswagon harness and for my switched ignition just ran a seperate red wire off of the kenwoods harness to my x75 terminal, now it doesent work like the oem one but it turns off by itself which is a big plus, maybe someday ill dig around for the key sense wire. but for now all is good in the neighborhood haha. thanks for all the help.
