Just got the Jetta back from Walter -- running great (as it should, for $282!), but also diagnosed as needing a new engine mount and bearings for one rear wheel.... Whaddya expect for buying a car that cheap, I guess. At least it's back up and running!

Anyway, I'd love to drop by later on in the evening -- probably more like 7:30 or 8:00-ish. I'll bring the car -- and some modest/responsible amount of German beer as thanks for the warm welcome into the local Dub-Club. Cheers, and see you all there.

yea, right place, but I didn't check the thread, so by 7:00, I was gone. No one showed so u didn't miss anything.

I am begining to feel that starting this club is a waste of time if no one is going to show.. I know heysuperman was waiting to see if enough people were going to response before he came out. it would be great to have more the three people interested in this

Things like this can be pretty hard to coordinate, especially with time-delayed communication like these posts. Want to start planning for something TWO, count 'em, TWO weekends from now to make sure people can check calendars, etc.? Given that much notice, I think I can make my place look presentable enough that I could host.... (This coming weekend's out; I'll be at a wedding in way-eastern Ohio....)

What say you all -- two weekends from now? (I think I'd slightly prefer a Friday night over a Saturday night, but I could probably do either one....)

Yeah, my place would be fine -- I can probably seat about ten. I think there might be enough square footage for twelve, but a couple people might need to bring their own place to sit! For those who are into XBos/PS2/whatever, I don't have any of them, but I've got front A/V inputs on my receiver to make 'em an easy connection.

That's the long-winded way to say Nov. 1 at my place sounds fine; BYO game system (and something to grill if the weather's still warm enough). And if you want, bring a copy of "Fast & Furious" to heckle!

i am heading to psu that weekend so i wont be able to attend...sorry about this weekend i worked all weekend and hadn't checked the post i hope we can find a better way to get together, because i have this weird feeling that all of us are connected through our aquaintences and friends, but we just cant bring the whole thing together. are their any shows coming up soon that we could head to...this would be an easy way to get alot of us together?

I'm far too new to have any idea about regional shows, etc. -- other than anything that might pop up in the regional forum. These are hard to coordinate, though.

Anybody want to suggest a different date to see if we can get more people available, or should we stick with Nov. 1 and just catch ozweego0o the next time around?

it is highly unlikey that we will get everyone together at the same time every time we meet

, we all have very different schedules.

How about we say that we are going to "officially" meet on the First Firday of every month, like our meeting next week, and keep it like that. we can still set up little gtg inbetween that also. Everyone wont be able to make it all the time, but eventually everyone will get to meet and know each other.

How does that sound?

Good plan -- let's aim for the first Friday of every month, including Nov. 1 at my place. I'll provide directions as the time gets closer (but suffice to say that if you can find Union St., you'll be able to find my place!)....

The Jetta's visiting Walter again, for a second round of stuff (engine mount, wheel bearing, and assorted stuff) that he noticed last time the car was in. At this rate, looks like my $1,000 car will be a $2,000 car by next week (including the CD deck and tires I bought right off the bat), but she oughta run like a top!

Just to confirm that I'm still planning on hosting a Lafayette-area GTG Friday evening. Looks like the weather's gonna bite, so probably no grilling, but it's still an excuse to congregate with Dub-heads. My place is on Wellington Court, and if all goes according to schedule (Walter's on vacation this week, so it's just Andy), you'll be able to look for the driveway with a Stratos Blue Jetta in it. Further directions as the time approaches, so...

Everyone can bring sympathy cards for my wallet. Besides the wheel bearing and motor mount (and blue coolant temp sensor, which is no biggie), I also needed:

- a new tie rod (old one was about to fall off),
- a SECOND new motor mount, and
- a new CV joint.

I'd better be able to drive to the North Pole now, because between purchase price, repairs, new tires, and a modest stereo, my $1,000 car has now cost me about $2,750. Then I'll need to redo the A/C and cooling fan in the spring.

So, sympathy cards for my credit card would be appropriate.

I'll post directions, etc., this evening when I'm home from work. (Hint: look for the Jetta with blue paint that's slowly morphing into U.S. Currency Green!)

Okay, easy directions to my place for tomorrow's GTG: I'm on Wellington Court, which comes off the south side of Union Street between 28th and 30th. (In other words, if Wellington were a through street, it'd be 29th.)

I live in the left side of the third home on the left -- there'll be a red Steve Knecht for Judge sign in the yard, and a blue A2 Jetta on my side of the driveway. Everyone can just park at the curb (just not on the other half of my driveway, which belongs to my neighbor).

I don't have a DVD player, so any DVD-watching will require someone's PS2 or other player -- but it'll be easy to hook up stuff like that for the evening. Aside from that, bring anything you want so long as it's legal, though I'll plan to have some in the fridge.

All Dubheads welcome!

If you're heading west on Union (i.e., towards the river), Wellington's a left. If you're heading east on Union (i.e., towards 52), it'll be a right.

Bring anything you think would make for a good time -- and maybe a few bucks for calling in a couple pizzas, since it's gonna be a little cold for grilling....

Oh -- I don't have any spare wiper parts to sell -- but if the gang's so inclined, I'd offer use of my garage (so that we can stand around the car scratching our heads and wondering indoors instead of out )....

Hey -- now that the forums are back up (at least for now, knock on wood), thanks to everyone who made it out on Friday night. It was good to meet at least a few members of the local crowd.

Anyone else care to host next month's GTG, or should I plan on it? (I'm fine with hosting, but I don't want to monopolize it if anyone else wants to.)

I got brave Saturday night and used the Dub for a round-trip to Valpo. Made it there and back, but there's still something screwy -- it's not happy at or near freezing, and feels kind of like it's lean-surging or something. I'll check my Haynes manual tonight, and will probably pop for a Bentley before another visit to Walter. Either way, let's hope third time's charm.

Again, good to meet the local Dub gang! Next one's set for 12/6, right?

same here, it was cool to put faces with everyones name. i finally broke down and purchased a bently a few weeks back. amazon.com had it for the best price i could find. for my car it was $42 shipped, came in like 2 days regular ups ground!!!
