As a certified VW tech, I can say that I don't know how to work on Chrysler

Wish I could, but I got a lot going on the next few weeks...

Truck is back in my possession, came in a little under what I expected, which is awesome! Have a little extra to possibly replace the empty spot in my safe...thinking about a Desert Eagle?

Oh, BTW for those of you not on my Facebook, this was Tuesday afternoon:

Wheel bearing already? How many miles did it last? Are they using Mitsubishi wheel bearings or something?

(I say that because my dad used to have an old Mitsubishi Mighty Max pickup and he seemed to go through an inordinate number of front wheel bearings in that thing.)

    Thanks pastor and bill.

The mighty max was also sold by dodge under a different name. My guess is it came from them. This issue was a recall for dodge and chrysler but vw in their infinite wisdom has decided to say screw you.

I think the raider was a mitsu. The dodge version of the mighty max was a ram. I had a Mighty Max. It was 4wd, no air, no power windows, 5spd manual. Auto locking hubs but i couldnt get it into 4wd unless i was under 15mph. Loved it. Kinda my first ride. I couldbt afford a toyota so i settled for that...damn back to the future...sold me on import trucks :p

WRX is now sold to Auto Express. If anyone decides they want to buy it, they'll need to wait a couple weeks and pony up an extra $1,500+ for it.

    Oh well, I tried....

Well... The Mk3 parts car is about as stripped as I'm willing to go....

    Started out with this...

I saved every nut, bolt, clip, trim bit, and part I thought was worth saving. There were some good parts that I'm not keeping like the ABS control unit and a few things like that because my car doesn't have ABS for instance... Coincidentally that also meant I couldn't steal the rear disc setup since the car was lacking the rear brake load valve (ABS cars don't have it). Plus the calipers were really crap, ebrakes were seized, the carriers were rusted to hell.. only thing worth saving were the stub axles, and I opted to leave them so that the car would roll. I even kept the whole wiring harness, things related to the radio had be cut as well as a some parts at the rear of the car, plus with the ABS control I don't know how it will match up to mine but oh well, most of it is intact and you never know when you may need it...

    Anyway, now I have this...

I now know more about how a mk3 is put together than I EVER intended on knowing..

Hopefully its all done for a while It runs better and seems to be getting better MPGs. I also bought a new tune for it, should be around 400hp at the wheels now...it sounds meaner and feels a lot "lighter".

I also bought a shotgun finally this last weekend. Just a good ol' Mossberg 500 with a 28" smooth bore, 22" rifled with scope, and an 18" cylinder bore. Also got a Hogue polymer pistol grip/fore end for use with the 18" barrel to keep it compact for defense...

Thanks!! It is fun, expensive, but fun. The tune I got doesn't smoke a lot, a little before the turbo spools up, but man...its amazing how much a tune can affect the performance in a turbo diesel. The truck feels lighter and sounds so much meaner, amazingly too keeping your foot out of it yields better MPGs running the hotter tune.

I put some new headlights on it (Harley Davidson edition) to give it the smoked headlight look...seems I am following a similar pattern as I did with the GTI...white car, smoked headlights

Tech question for the knowledgeable among y'all. As the weather gets warmer, the creaking/groaning in the A4's front end gets worse and worse. It's usually quieter while turning, though. Does that point more towards swaybar bushings, control arms, or a third option I haven't thought of yet?

I can't say that it points more toward one than the other. A rubber bushing is a rubber bushing.. they'll be affected equally by temperature change. The control arms have bigger bushings and they move more than the sway bar. So, I'd say they are likely.

    Looks like a fun job...

I think it's probably your muffler bearings. Start with those.

    Oh, and lower it.

FCP Groton sells a decently-reputed control arm kit (complete with full tie rods) for $220-$240, depending on whether you want rubber-damped or solid tie rods. Then, 034 Motorsports has a kit for $375; then there's the full gamut of kits from ECS ranging from $220-$550. Reputed to be about a 10-hour DIY job.

Still, since the swaybar bushings are cheap and easy, I'll probably start with those. If not, then muffler bearings.

Even assuming 10 hours, that means I'm keeping $70 in my pocket for every hour I spend on it. A lot to be said for hanging onto $700 instead of spending it on labor....

Honestly though Jason, he is right, Audi suspensions are really rough, even with the special tools and a lift. I've worked on quite a few and none of them came apart easy. I even had some troubles with cars ~ 1 year old. Make sure you have an air hammer handy and a very very secure jackstand. The upper ball joint and through bolt always gave me the most amount of trouble. Good luck man, make sure you keep the kids far out of ear shot, many select 4 letter words will be uttered when you start to dig into it

Wow, sounds like a total delight. To be honest, I was considering looking for a chance to bribe a few of y'all with burgers, brats, and homebrew (lots and lots of nice fresh draft beer — mmm... beer...) for some guidance and extra hands while I wrenched. You're starting to make me reconsider!!!
