well, this evening i'm putting a down payment on a 1996 Suzuki GS500e

It seems to be in pretty good shape. i'm buying it from a guy in Milwaukee who just bought it off of ebay. Upon purchasing it, he told his parents he bought a bike and they said "oh, we just bought you one for college grad. we weren't gonna tell you"
He picked it up from Minneapolis and gave me a good rundown as to what sorts of damages or anything else it had.
Basically it's kinda finniky about how the key is turned. You've gotta jiggle it a little. There's a small tear in the seat, and there's a small piece of plastic missing from the tail. Other than that, it's in great shape. good paint, good seals etc. One of the shortcomings of the GS is that the fork seals leak. The previous owner spent about $1200 to have these and the heads looked at and replaced if need be (forks were replaced, heads were okay). There's recipts of this.
I'm super excited and i'll pick it up over easter weekend when i go home.

Congrats all around -- on the bike (GREAT first bike), and especially on the new suspension, Mike! (Saw your audio thread, too -- that car's pretty sick!!!)
After getting my RSB jacked up by taking it through an automatic car wash , I just spent about 90 minutes replacing the endlinks.... Thought I might be able to just realign things, but one of the bushings was chewed up. (And then I thought I might be able to leave the dront brackets in place, but couldn't -- so I dropped the whole thing out; it was doing the whole install all over again except for the drilling....)
So, I'm glad I'd put it on medium for starters -- because now it's on full stiff and WHEEEEEEEE! Time to start suspension-shopping....

arggh Jason, never go through the automatic wash, its bad, evil, and horrible (not to mention a destroyer of wheels ) I once had a guy roll through my old shop with a then brand new 911, less than 200 miles on the clock, he had just washed it at an autowash and it destryed one of his 19" wheels, I about cryed for him

No problem -- I happened to stumble across a thread that said you should really tighten them with the car on the ground, anyway, to keep from twisting any bushings. So, I ended up back out at the car at 11:00pm with my feet hanging out the garage door loosening both sides, taking off the parking brake, bouncing the car a few times to make sure it was settled, then retorquing 'em.
And now I see that I think I actually put the bar on the SOFT setting -- it must've just felt good after having it out of line for a couple days. Oh, well -- it'll have to stay that way until my next suspension upgrade.

What would everybody think about having a dyno day sometime in the future?? Thought that might be a cool idea.

Well, I'm finally on uberdubs... I thought about trying to set something up with Auto Specialty here in town. They have a mustang dyno, so don't expect high numbers. Crap...I need to get my sheet scanned in from when I went to Horsepower House in Lexington...I was pretty disappointed when I first got the sheet back until I read up on the differences between dynojets, mustang dynos, and dynapacks. Dude at HPH told us, add roughly 15% to your numbers off a mustang dyno, and that will give you about what you'd pull on a dynojet, since mustang dynos take into consideration a lot of different factors for more realistic numbers. Unfortunately, weight is one of those factors, and it didn't help I had a couple of my bud's racing slicks in the hatch...LOL
