#109
just heysuperman and myself showed up. there was a guy that worked at Pizza hut (drives for them) who had a new black Golf, it was looking pretty nice. didn't get a chance to talk to him though.
but, we need to get as many people as we can together soon so we can get this show on the road.

The first half looked like the same ol' story for the Boilers, but they came out fired up in the 2nd and actually looked good
I hope they keep improving or they are going to get spanked by Michigan on Oct. 19th. GO BOILERS

hey, i hoped i'd beat you all home... now dont razz me too bad, thats the first time i'd ever driven a new VW. i got better at it down at the first light.... it was sooo quiet, i'd have to make it louder, just so i could hear whats going on with my engine, and the brakes stop so nice... it must be nice to have a new car.
![]()
#115
hea. I did not get a chance to test drive the cars but I did see them fit 30 people into that new beetle, it was crazy. they said the record was 24!Anybody going to be around this weekend? if so, let put together a little BBQ or somehting...we can lounge at my place and watch football all day sunday on NFL Sunday ticket (it is actually tomuch football for one man to handle). But if you your going to be here lets get together and get so ideas for this club started!

hey here it is. this is what we need to do to get a purdue organization started. I think the hardest part would be finding a faculty advisor. One that is a VW head atleast. Does anyone know of one? writing the guidlines would be the least of our problems. once we are a student organization we can line our cars up on the memorial mall and show off, it would be better than those durty jeeps they had on the lawn last week!http://www.purdue.edu/odos/sao/start_an_org.htm
#117
hey, been pretty dead in here, then again i've been really busy and i bet all of you have been too. we could go one of two ways, register as a club with purdue, or hang out on our own... lining up on the memorial might be nice![]()
#118
hey whats up i am the dude rollin in the white a2 gti with the rumblin exhaust note... idea for tommorow you think there is any way that we could team up with those vw guys and get to park on the memorial mall as we try to get all this club/organization stuff figured out? just a thought and for this weekend i would be down with a bbq or something i gotta work at mad mushroom on sat at like 11 and sunday at 3 anytime around that works by the way my name is chrisanother thing...if the dude with the red a3 who works for papa johns is on here.....i wanna buy your vx1's if anyone else knows where i can find a set a of vx1's give me a holla...preferably poorly finished b/c i want to have them powdercoated black....thanks chris

Hey -- just thought I'd mention that Lafayette has a new Dubber -- me. Granted, my car's a bone-stock 8v auto, except for a set of old Borbets (and a minor wrinkle at the front of the left fender). Oh, and it's at Walter's Auto Imports right now waiting on what Walter thinks is gonna be a new set of injectors.... But FWIW, there's a new member of the "club."So, my first region-specific Dub question: do you guys trust anyone besides Walter to work on your cars?
Here's a
for the local crowd!
#120
hey, I don't know any other german specialist around here. Walter's pretty much got that market locked. I have been taking my car there and they do a good job, There expensive as HELL, but what can u do...that is probably because I had a friend in my brother club back at home that owned a shop and he took car of all the homies...this full price stuff sucks.![]()
![]()
that and you have no where else to go!

#121
you know, i don't trust walter. he screwed over a buddy of mine a few years ago. then again some of the guys at Mike Raisor Imports i question too. they had the wrong idea on how to install my short throw shifter. i hear the guys in Indy are top notch
"Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken..." T-Durden
#122
don't say that...Walter's is suppose to put in my new tranny. should I let them do it or get it done in Indy? Lemme cause I am having it shipped straight to Walter's.
#123
i'm no expert. i've never had any work done there, but they couldn't even install a clutch and get it to work right on that guys car
"Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken..." T-Durden
#124
that is not good...I got a tranny, lighten clutch and flywheel set coming. who do u know in Indy?
#125
i'd like to know more about walter... i ran into someone with an aircooled beetle, and he recomended him to me. anything going this weekend? good to have you here OstTrefftWest![]()

Damned insomnia -- I'd rather be sleeping right now....I've been taking my Miata to Walter for several years now -- everything from a basic 90,000-mile service to $4,000 of collision repair after getting bashed in back by a semi on 465 a couple years ago. (Uh, yeah -- it was interesting....)
Anyway, I was seriously disappointed in his paint work, but the welds on their structural work looked near-robot clean to my eye. My first Miata (dearly departed -- tree fell on it) went there for a 90,000 mile service and came back feeling 50,000 miles younger. I think he must've been the first mechanic who actually tightened all the chassis bolts like Mazda recommended. FWIW, I've been impressed -- and a college buddy of mine with an '87 Scirocco swore by him, too.
Overall, my hunch is that with a shop as far off the beaten drag as his, that he couldn't have survived for all this time unless he made most of his customers happy. Of course, even mechanics have bad days -- and I'll be the first to admit that ones who have a bad day on MY car don't get second chances, so I won't argue with anyone who's had trouble. But far as I'm concerned, I think Walter's great (as he'd better be for the moolah!).
Love to hear any other reports, though.
For anyone wanting a backup option, I've been pretty happy with Kimbrell's downtown, though I've only given them routine stuff to deal with, so I've never really put 'em to the test.
Thanks for the feedback, all!

any pics of your cars OstTrefftWest?![]()

i think i'll stick with the dealers in Lafayette and Indy until my warrenty runs out

Not yet -- and I probably won't until I've got her cleaned up a little further, to make sure she's looking presentable. (The previous owners were in Boswell, about seven miles of gravel roads off the main highway, so I've spent LOTS of time cleaning about 1/8" of road dust off of every surface and crevice!)It looked familiar to me before I'd even bought it, though, so I think I'd seen it around town -- maybe you have, too. It's Stratos Blue with 14" Borbet six-spokes, decent window tint, and it used to have an "in memory of #3" sticker at the bottom right corner of the back window. (The sticker was the first thing to go.... Then the half-broken Roadmaster radio and the 3-and-1 mismatched no-name tires.... Next project will be having a coupla minor dash cracks fixed. Then the real daydreaming starts....
)
When she's back from Walter's, though, I'll try to use up the last of my current roll of film so I can scan some shots. (At least I'll have some "before" pics that way....)

I down for after the game tomorrow. I got a nice size grill at my place but no charcoBut it is whatever, we just need to get together.
It might be kinda rough getting folks together for tonight. all I know is we need more people to show up than our last attempt. There was a total of three of us...John, myself and my daughter...lets try and do a little better than that this time. so lets get a time and place together by tonight, just a suggestion.

Party time. We can get it started around 5, that would be plenty of time for the football traffic to leave.
1010 N. Salsibury St...apt. # just look for the direct TV dish right above the door and the '91 passatt sitting in front of it.
Bring you own meet to through on the grill....and bring your PS2 and Xbox games and controllers. All VW heads are welcome.
How does that sound to every one?
