Looks like I'll be available for the December gtg after all. I'll keep my eyes on the thread for details as the time gets closer.

heres a question for you all, i dont have time right now to go back through the thread. sounds like i need a new clutch, and a pressure plate to go with it eventually. did someone (oster) just have this done with walter? i just was curious about the prices, and how you feel about the end reuslt of his work? thanks a bunch!

Happy Thanksgiving, all! If anyone's still around town tonight, feel free to stop by the Java Roaster to catch some music. Jessica Jaques (an old h.s. friend of mine) is back from L.A. and doing a show from 8 to 10; her band consists of her husband, Jaime Collaço, on guitar; yours truly on keyboards; and her sister Janette Jaques on percussion. I think it's even no-cover, so stop by if you're so inclined.
And for VW content: My car's an automatic (unfortunately), so I have no experience with what Walter charges for clutch work. I'll bet he could give you a good estimate if you called him, though -- I'll bet he's done a million of 'em, and knows exactly how long it takes him.

Bump for the GTG tonight -- I'll be there. (If I get away from the office in time, I might even buy the Jetta a little car-audio Christmas present at HH Gregg first!)
See y'all there -- take a break from finals (for all you students) and clear your head with your fellow Dubbers!

Hey, i'm still here!!! I haven't had 10 minutes to myself though, busy times. Hey ost, not sure what i'll be doing with the crossflow, i can sell it to ya if you want it...hopefully i will have the swap done by the end of january. Let me know everyone have a great safe holiday season, i would hate to hear of someone wrecking a dub from drinking and driving

hey eric, i think i'm getting a new sony headunit for christmas through circuit city... problem is, i dont know if my old changer has RCA cables or not (its sony also). any ideas how long sony has been using RCA cables to get more data to the headunit from the changer? what do you think of sony Xplod CDX-MP30 CD/MP3 reciever? it'll either be that one, or the lest costly version that looks just like it. merry christmas and happy holidays to all. and just out of curiosity, how much does a x-flow sell for, and whats the installation like? ost, lemme know if you need help installing it when we get back, and if you dont buy it, i'd be curious. consider me second in line?

it was suppose to be the first firday of each month and that was last firday...i say we concentrate on febuary.
but lemme tell yall the news on my car....walter is killing me. i was burning oil like no tomorrow, having to put a quart and half in each week, so i took it to walter's before i left to get that worked on. he told me that if it the oil is getting into the rings and pistons that is like a $2000 job. Well, that is not including the tranny that is being put in, so i am looking at $3000 worth of work...I called them this past saturday and he CLAIMS that they have worked on the car for three days straight. being that they are open from 7-7 (12 hour days) @ $59 per hour. that is pretty close to $1500 and they claim they have yet to find what they exact problem is. he ordered some new piston cause my were really worn, and wanted to see if that will cure the problem, he is doing that today...i am wondering now if i am putting to much money in this car now as to buying a newer used one. i just figured that i might as well get the work put into this since the car is paid for and if i buy a newer used car, i am going to have to put just as much into in the near future. Walter say that it is taking longer than expected so i am coming back to school with no car, he said it might not be ready until monday and i get back Thursday morning. like sucks
I will say this much, if it was not for this student loan, i would have no car.
Hope to see eveyone when school starts back up.

D'oh! I'd started thinking it was the LAST Friday of every month. I agree that we should just wait until next month's.
Sorry to hear about your Walter bill -- it does add up, but he gives a great finished product. (He's probably about to make some more from me, unless I can do a little vacuum/grounds troubleshooting myself -- and then probably make more a few months from now when I'll need an all-new A/C system.)
Has everyone checked out the link in Eric's (farfromugen's) sig? His car (no surprise) is looking better than ever....

Man, I dunno how I managed not to notice the new posts in here.... I have a news update: that I'm probably about to take a hiatus from Dubbing. The Jetta's going into Walter's one more time (looks like the ignition timing isn't advancing in cold weather -- a bad surprise when pulling in front of traffic), but I think she's going on the market after that. By then, I think she'll be perfectly reliable (just a few weeks ago, I did a problem-free 875-mile weekend), so if you know any Dubbers looking for a solid winter car or a project platform, let me know!
Thing is, I've got a hookup for a new Focus SVT that'll cost me the same per month as the Jetta plus the stuff I'd be doing to it this year. So even if the SVT isn't any more reliable, it's at least under warranty, so that I can actually stick to a budget.... I'll miss the A2, but the SVT really does feel a lot like an updated A2....
Even if I go to the "dark side," though (notice I'm not going Honda? ), I'll still be at least lurking in the forums....
And a tip for Eric: Andy (Walter's son) is thinking pretty hard about dropping an ABA block into a Scirocco of his. If you don't get any takers on yours, you could talk to him. I think he's only swapping the block, though, so you'd have to find another taker for the X-flow head....
      I'll keep you posted....

as someone who use to own a ford. let me tell ya...they'll leave you out to dry the first chance they get. Although the ford dealer in town is pretty nice. i use to work for them and they're alright. unlike the VW service owned also by Mike Rasior which sucks ass. anyway, if ur looking for a faster ride and something with a better warrenty i'd suggest the new Dodge Neon SRT-4. it's turbo charged and has a front mount intercooler. it's rated @215hp. even has a better warranty than VW which already kicks fords ass. has a 3 year 36k bumper to bumper and on top of that it has a 7 year 70k powertrain. i know for a fact that ford only has a 3 year 36k bumper to bumper and no extra on powertrain. let me tell you how much that sucks. my ford was at 36500 miles when the CV joints on both sides went out. i had to pay $1300 to fix both sides since my warrenty was up. FORD WARRANTY SUCKS. anyway, the SRT-4 is the best ride out there that's under $20k.
comes loaded at $19995 and that includes the destination charge. only other option is front side air bags for $390. all prices are MSRP. has 4 doors vs 2 so insurance will cost less and you don't even have to ask which one is faster. the neon does the 0-60 in 6sec flat. but if you ask me i'd rather get a 1.8t VW with a chip from APR, but that's just me
friends to let friends buy fords..or hondas

All those (SRT-4, and especially new MkIVs) would be an option if I had a little bigger budget, but I can grab an SVT for substantially less than $20,000 -- and the professional car-buyer who's searching alternatives for me might be able to find one for as low as $15K .... But I do appreciate the heads-up (and any others)!
All's not lost yet -- there's a leftover 2002 Jetta GLS 2.slow/5spd/Monsoon+roof that's advertised at a $250/mo lease, and I haven't ruled it out.... Surprisingly, not much insurance difference between 'em, though, given that it's not a "hot" Jetta....

i think dodge has a lot of incentives out at the moment. you might be able to get into one for $250 a month on a lease. give em a call. just don't be stuck making payments on a ride you won't be happy with. if that's how it's gonna be you might as well stick with the ride you have now.
