Ive always been a mobil 1 user and yesterday I picked up my 2010 TDI Jetta so I went on Mobil's website and plugged in all my vehicle info and it says to use Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 but it also says its only available at Chrysler dealers. Is this true?
If i buy oil from vw, is it Castrol full synthetic?

Yes, all 507.00 rated oil is synthetic. Dealers almost exclusively have Castrol 5w30 LLX, usually ~$8 a liter. The various online vendors have Castrol, Fuchs, and a few other brands.

These are a few of the favorites. Don't cheap out on the oil. If your dealer is competent and you choose to let them do your "free" services an 10, 20, and 30k, watch them like hawks to make sure they use the correct oil AND the correct quantity: 4 liters. It's amazing that they can screw up something as simple as an oil change, but they do. The Castrol is only sold in liter bottles, but they usually wind up putting 4.5 liters, thinking they're pouring from quart bottles. They'll also use fasser oil and lie about it being OK.

I did my own 10 and 20k services and will be doing my 30k service in a month probably.

You can get 507.00 spec Mobil 1 5W30 at Pep Boys -- It's something like $5.99 or $6.99 per liter.

The Mobil 1 507 oil at PepBoys is called Mobil 1 ESP 5W30. The last time I looked they had raised the price to $7.99 per liter. However that's still cheaper than the Castrol that the dealer sells. I have also read analysis reports that claim that it's actually a better lubricant that the Castrol.

      Have Fun!
