Thread: Flat air splitter fitted

  1. 06-14-2010 02:56 PM #1
Its not perfect but then its part of the prototype front bumper lip so I'm not too fussed about that. One of the reasons I wanted to make the bumper lip was to create a flat surface to mount an air splitter to. Its just for show - car really isn't low enough for this to have a drastic effect. Its held on with self tapping screws so a 5 min job to take off. Covered it in 3m carbon vinyl to match the rest of the front end.

Brilliant! As I say, its more for looks than function but the next version will be a bit more like the shape you describe.

The more you do to your .:R the more I love it. That is truly impressive.

The Dinoc Splitter looks AWESOME! goes great with your custom cupra build.

I also love the carbon'd out VW badge.... looks amazing as well.

I Really wanna do this to my BMP.

I loved the look of the new front end before the new addition. I still love it. Your car just keeps getting better and better looking. Great work.

    I love it!
My seat cupra lip was recently installed after sitting in the garage for 2+ years...and it is nice, but slightly under impressive. A functional one hopefully will come in the future

Beautiful work Dan. First class as always!

I assume that it is REAL carbon, not the 3M dinoc as above.

Looks sick. Post up how you made it! I have been thinking how to do a splitter on our bumpers...

looks good and i love the idea but i wish the bumpers matched

  18. 06-15-2010 02:52 AM #18
GTItraveler - As the flat bit is a prototype, its made of 6mm plywood! I painted it to make it waterproof to some extent and then wrapped it in the 3m Di-noc carbon vinyl!

duvinclunk - are you asking how I made the flat splitter or the other part to the bumper? There used to be a thread on that if so and will turn up eventually.

97audi4 - bumpers matched? Matched what?

Looks great! As Draxus diagrammed above, if it stuck out farther it would provide functional downforce. It doesn't even look like it needs to stick out another 3"-4" to provide downforce as it only needs to stick out farther than the leading edge of the bumper. It doesn't matter how low the car is, the splitter just needs to be the first thing the air hits.
