Point being, you don't have to break the bank to get at least minimal protection. One visit to the ER for stitches would cost you more than the pants.
Read the post, saw the pics bought this:

I've been putting it off for 6 months, bought it in less then 5 minutes after seeing that.

Got my carbon parts from across the pond (side panels and front fender) and threw them on as well as a pair of Oberon foot pegs and Storz Racing shifter. I also modded the pulley cover with some cut-outs.

Ordered Pirelli angel st's. Considering my kick off ride is from upstate to deals gap and back.

Hopefully the Angel's hold up to their reviews of 7500 miles.

Yesterday I siphoned out the fuel, changed the fuel filter and refueled. The bike runs better. The existing filter had a date stamp of 2002 on it.

Pulled it out of the heated storage building, got pissed that it wouldn't start up, got the tools to fix take it apart, charged it, still wouldn't start, got starting fluid, started like a charm. Rode my ass off for 45 minutes while its 30 degrees out.

Battery won't hold charge because its smoked, or my rectifier is gonzo. Need to look into it before my trip next month.

Upstate NY to Deals Gap. 3 rockets, back is going to hurt.

That....is not cool. But it doesn't look that bad. I would sand down that section of the tank, straighten it out as much as possible and hit it with some primer. That part of the tank is hidden by the seat/side panels.

that's what i'm planning. worst case, i can just cut that area off since all that part does is help hold the side-cover

Indeed, that is an awesome 1k! Love it!

Just finished the fork seals on my bike. Inverted forks aren't near as scary as people make them sound.

Got a battery for the new to me XJR1300 (it's a 2003 bike, sold new in 2005, never registered... got it with 12.8 kms on the clock), started it up and rode it around the block...

I also ordered a set of OEM look alike mirrors (left mirror is broken) and a supply of oil filters from the UK. Unbelievable that each oil filter is $16 at the dealership and a champion filter only $6 from the UK... As I'm already paying 20 GBP for shipping I also took the chance to order brake pads for my XT660 and one oil filter, I like to keep 2 spare filters and right now I only have one for the XT.

Also ordered a can of "Blue-Job" as one of the headers is yellow ish and the other has a bit of bluing... Which got worse after riding it around the block, seems that the carbs need some work... I'll drain the tank as the gas is probably 1 year old and add 5 liters of fresh gas with two bottles of injector cleaner, I hope that takes care of the dirty carbs.

rode it 59 miles home in 31 degree weather.

Nothing, I figure if I'm lucky it will only be at the dealer for another 2 weeks. It has been in since February 12th.

nope! My friend does signage work and has a vinyl cutting machine, just drew up a sketch on the computer and had the machine do the cutting. Applying them wasn't much fun but they are holding up great

I just bought my first bike as a project It's a 1980 Honda 650. Currently looks beat, and is missing a gas tank. So it is a project. I will try to get it running after the tank is on, and then will start adding all of my parts.

I will soon be picking up a set of new forks, triple trees, risers, handlebars, and a headlight. Is there anywhere I can get a new ignition system w/ a key also? I just don't have tons of money to be buying a good bike THEN customizing it, so I went with this path. I don't even have my license so I'm not even worried about riding it any time soon lol.
