Finished up and installed my seat this last week. For an experimental piece everything turned out pretty good.
Made a gauge bracket as well to lower and center the gauge so it flows with the clip ons

tried to get it running again. 3rd attempt at a valve adjustment and this time i believe i did it correctly. fixed the coolant leak. the bike still wont start under its own power i had to jump it and use the choke. cant get it running on its own without the choke. idk what to do. its becoming a big waste of my time and a money pit.

Headed to Eureka Springs Arkansas this Friday for a weekend of camping and riding. Took the bike in the shop and replaced the points, spark plugs, and did an oil/filter change. Also remembered I had the original backrest for the passenger in a box from when I bought the bike I cleaned it up and installed it for my wife to use on the trip. I am not crazy about the looks of it but it will make my wife happy having it on for the weekend.

Shorter handle bars, cleaned carbs (again) and four new plugs. New bar-end mirrors (not pictured). Runs like a CHAMP and handles like it should. I'm thrilled.

Started mine since I've been away for a week. Gonna try to get in some riding before I leave again Thursday. Also replaced the fuel lines and brake fluid on my dad's GS 500.

went to local performance shop (www.karnsperformance.com) open house
dyno"d bike for free (only 65hp) i think a tune and some cooler air would have helped, plan to get pc3 or 5 this year and tune. maybe velocity stacks too....maybe
spent the day watching bikes be dyno'd and bought some nice gear- agv kevlar reinforced jeans, adv laguna gloves (ones that just won the best glove in motorcycle mag), and finally found a nice Suzuki hat. oh and a pretty nice little tank bag too![]()

Take a look at d2moto.com for pads. I tried a set of the HH sintered pads for the front of the vfr. I am very happy with them. I rode them pretty hard for 400 miles this weekend and I can't tell a difference between them and EBCs. I think they were about $35 for the complete front set.

finally dropped it off the other day to have the carbs fully sorted. No more mixture of OEM/Dynajet and off the shelf jets causing fueling issues.

I bought a 1" three-ring binder for use to store my bike related documents. This is a first for me; I'm not usually that anal and to be honest I throw away more receipts than I keep. BUT, this is my first brand new bike purchase and I want to document as much as possible throughout the life of the machine.
So, I filled the binder with the clear plastic page protectors and have inserted the original sales contract, dealership PDI checklist, price tag, accessory promise sheet, and first service invoice. I am going to try my best and remember to also include any invoices I get from aftermarket parts suppliers such as Joker Machine, Bella Course, etc. so I can easily document what mods I have done to it.

May I recommend fuelly.com. What I do is always, always, always get a receipt from the pump. I then either write the odo reading on the receipt, or snap a quick photo of the odo with my phone. The phone route is usually what happens on the bike as I don't have a pen handy most of the time. But later I enter the info in. Bam, a log of every drop of gas I put through the thing.
I do this in the car too. Most claim I am neurotic about it. I've got something like 215k miles of fuel logs spanning two pickups, two cars, and now my V-Strom. Three of those having nearly continuous records since I have owned them.
I use a file folder for receipts. I keep receipts for parts and service, but not fuel.

Reinstalled the rear wheel. This was a follow-up to yesterday's fun and games changing the tires, which is actually not fun at all. They were long overdue, though, and now I have a fresh set of knobbies to wear down on the pavement.
Then I took it for a quick spin. Might be time to repack the muffler...
