got a ton done on my bike over the past couple weeks. i had a piston break just below the rings and send itself through my motor about 8 weeks ago.
so while i was tearing down the bike i knew it was going to be bad when i found some metal chunks in the intake track. at that point i mentally and walletly prepared myself for a full motor rebuild. So i took the motor out and split the case.

Once it was split i filled it with a new hot rods crank and bearing kit along with all necessary seals and put it back together.

From there I started to prep to put the jug and piston back together. As i was cleaing up the jug I noticed a small chunk taken out at the corner of one exhaust port. I was worried about it so I consulted with some others and they thought it would be ok. The more I inspected I found two small cracks in the cylinder coating.
These cylinders use an expensive coating to help with heat and ring life, by the time you fix it and have it recoated you're right around the $400 range. I bought a new cylinder for $430 brand new from Rocky Mountain Atv/MC. Those came in friday so i transfered all of my power valves pieces over to the new jug and finally assembled a complete motor

I was pretty motivated at this point so i threw the motor back in the frame and buttoned everything up.

Filled it with coolant, need to pick up some trans fluid, and then i will be starting it and breaking it in tonight after work. To be honest I am extremely nervous about the first fire up but I am confident in my work and i followed the shop manual word by word. But i'm still nervous if it breaks anytime soon please check back for a part out thread

Not today, but all in the last week or so: New battery, new tires, new fuel pump/filter , and fresh oil/filter change.

    Runs better than new!

going to pick up a new thermostat and then drain the coolant and flush the system out and refil. i may pull the waterpump while its drained to make sure it looks ok. Need to fix this over heating issue. Im pretty sure the t stat failed closed so the bike over heats and the coolant never flows. the radiator fan kicks on as it should and the bike used to cool so i believe the wp was cycling.

531km epic ride yesterday, so today's task was cleaning off the 100s of bugs that gave their life in order for me to have fun.

Started tearing it down to move from theory and concept to reality. Ordered some more parts (bless having access to Honda MFG Part #s through a dealer) to start putting together the rear disc swap on the CB650.

Need to start researching monoshock rear end geometries, anyone have a good place to start? I have lots of frame to attach an upper bracket, and the lower bracket will be part of the swingarm I'm installing.

finally put on just over 1k miles on the ninja. nice to know i had it running long enough to hit that mark. I also feel better having gained some experience riding. I did even manage to scrape something on the right side of the bike during a turn. scared the hell outta me for a sec when i heard it. I dont know if it was a peg or the exhaust as both were already marked and i couldnt tell.

Need a new rear tire so I ordered a new rear wheel. I was planning on upgrading the stock wheel to a 17x6 to fit a 200mm tire from the stock 160mm. I didn't see spending the cash on a 160 tire for 3 months just to have to turn around and buy another new tire.

Put a new (used) CDI in my bike since mine was failing. adjusted the chain then cleaned and lubed it. Put the proper amount of air in the tires since they were about 1/2 of what they should have been and rode the hell out off it. the new cdi gives the bike alot better power now. Im pretty happy with it now that its all back together. Still needs a working t stat but that will happen soon enough.
