Is there a list of things that can be done to our cars with vagcom with how-to's? I've searched and really haven't came up with anything and I'll be getting my cable tomorrow. Any help would be much appreciated. TIA.

Here are some of the more common tweaks you can do to your car with a vagcom,
http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/Golf5.html, once vortex gets all the archived threads back up again you will be able to search for more.

golfmkv forums also have a faq or sticky with a PDF file with a bunch of them in there.

some are much easier than others. enabling rain closing is probably one of the more tricky ones just because it involves math / windows calculator.

      Best mod ever!

I always wear my seat belt, but a lot of my passengers don't.

I know I should force them to, but oh well.

I see where it says enable flash to pass. Is there a separate way to get get the halogens to stay on with the high beams or does that happen with FTP?

As I recall, it's a package deal. FTP gets you the dual high beams as well. That's how mine is set up.

What I didn't see in there (quick scan) was the bit about coding the MFD to U.K. mode, something I had to do when I did my coding, presumably for FTP. You do that via the MFD convenience panel, not the Vagcom. Lingering effect is that my MFD will report "tyre" pressure low when my tires are low.

Not sure how Pennsylvania is specifically; but most states have that as a law now; if your passenger is not wearing a seatbelt you still ge tthe ticket (your car, your responsibility)

When i got my car vagcom'd, the guy that did it went through all of the menus and asked if i wanted this or that. He set up the emergency brakes to flash under hard braking. Rain closing windows. Remote open/close windows. Something with the parking lights that when you are in a parking lot you click the turn signal to one side and it will light up the parking lights on that side. Not sure what that is for, but i said sure. Definately get the FTP. You will turn night into day! Both doors unlock when the key is taken out of the ignitian. 1 click unlock of both doors.

He also showed me a little trick with the climate control that opens up this entire other menu. You can read RPMs, speed, etc on the climate control. Pretty cool, not very useful, but neat to show off to friends.

the speed you get through the climate control screen is accurate - if that means anything to anybody...

there is a wealth of info in there.

now where do I dig up the MKV procedures?

Certain countries in Europe require that tail light staying on the outside of street be on.So you lift the t/s stalk to the side you want tobe lit and turn off key

There are some states where the passengers not wearing the seatbelt will get a ticket if they are 16 or older.

All this can be done in the MFD. And the climate control thing doesn't need Vag either.

Which sorta makes your lack of support for asking passengers to wear seat belts a bit confusing to be honest.

I'm always able to get a non seat belt wearer to wear it in my car. I just say "It won't stop until you put it on" since the euro code for VAG makes the chime last much longer.

abe: By procedure, do you mean to access the VAG output via the Climatronic or are you asking for a list of codes and their measurements?

as usual, I'm about half wrong.

Check the pdf linked above. On page 6, it discusses how to get to UK coding with vag com. My recollection was muddied (probably) by the need to go back to the MFD to go back to Fahrenheit after you've done UK (which defaults to C).

Then on page 14 of the pdf, it describes tweaking byte 17, bit 1 in the central electronics module to enable flash to pass as well as dual high beams.

      hope that helps.

Got that to work just fine, missed it in the PDF. Now I'm having trouble with the remote windows and rain closing, go figure. I did notice that vag com looks different now than in the pdf.

OK, got the remote windows to work (had to uncheck one more box ) Now I just need to figure out why the rain closing feature won't work.

Alright, every time I turn off the ignition and take the key out and turn the car back on the rain closing feature has turned itself back off! Anyone have a clue as to what is going on or what I may have missed?

Care to elaborate on 'turning itself off'?

      To enter diagnostic mode:
      1) Press ECON [or AC] button and windshield defrost button
      - Driver side LCD displays diagnostic channel
      - large numbers = channel
      - superscript number = sub-channel
*for this post sub-channels referenced in decimal (i.e., 19.1)
      - Pass side LCD displays diagnostic value or data
*some values include decimal point, others don't, which suggests some values being 3 digits long (i.e., 654 = 654)
      2) Turn Driver's side temp knob to adjust channel number
      3) Turn FAN knob to adjust sub-channel
      4) Pres ECON [or AC] button to exit diagnostic mode
*) Passenger side temp knob appears to be control nothing

(Above was copied from a post on the TDI CLUB website)

      • 1.0: Temp as read by sensor in middle fan speed knob.
      • 1.4: Light intensity falling on same sensor.
      • 4.0: Outside Temp – front bumper
      • 4.1: Outside Temp – roof.
      • 4.2: Outside Temp – rear bumper (inside temp?)
      • 15.0: Oil Temp
      • 19.0: Uncorrected Speed (Km/h)
      • 19.1: Uncorrected Speed (Mp/h)
      • 19.2: Coolant Temp
      • 19.3: Tachometer (x100rpm)
      • 19.4: Oil Pressure
      • 25.0: Voltage

Some of the above may or may not be right, but I do know 19.x are right and voltage and such.

When I say turning itself off I mean when I turn on Rain closing in the MFD then turn the car off, when the car is turned on again and you go to the MFD it said off.

I changed byte 9 and now it will stay on in the MFD menu but the windows won't roll up when you spray water on the window still. Any suggestions?

Did you do the decimal to hex conversion in the other menu? I don't have it with me right now, but if you didn't convert any values, then you're missing the step.

The one from the drop down menu? I thought if your RLS was already activated you didn't need to, so in that case I did skip that step. So it does need to be done? What is the process involved?

Nice, glad you got it. Yeah, obviously that step is required even if RLS is already installed and working from factory. I had a slight sense of giddiness when mine closed for the first time, lol.
