Thread: MkII VRT Thread

  1. 02-23-2011 08:03 PM #36
PA synchro hands down is the best car in this thread so far.

TIME, MONEY, LABOR! hands down was not a cheap car to build and when do you see Synchro cars in USA? almost never unless your at a car show and that looks to me like a good street car to BLOW everyone's doors in

none of my friends with big turbo cars have their gears being "ripped apart" vrt's or 1,8t's, only issue is the clutch's lifespan
Lots of vr6 and some 1.8t parts for sale

it all depends on how you drive your car, but it does happen. so consider your friends lucky so far. Either they take care of their cars or they dont drive them hard enough or have been lucky and didnt hit a dip on the highway yet it high boost Maybe they have sh*t tires and and no LSD so they get wheel spin which is actually good for tranny if you hook up hard and dont snap an axel consider you gears gone

ask this guy here, he has a nice ride and has broken several o2a gears

im sure some people dont like the idea of big power FWD bc of traction problems... but that is where the fun starts 100mph burnouts anyone?

or maybe they just know how to shift, cause I assure you they do not drive their cars gently

has nothing to do with how you shift.... you could be in 3rd gear pulling hard and the gear could strip. Most of the time happens with you hit a dip or uneven pavement. When this happens the gear has on and off load especially TQ and it's a done deal.

But I must say out of the few threads I have posted my car on no one has said mine was the nicest on there so far cause I know it doesnt look good but I have thousands of dollars into so far and will be getting thousands more and as far as I look at it this project will never be finished. So it makes me feel good some ppl can respect a nice built car just doesnt look pretty yet.

But there are some nice as vrt's on here. any of you guys in pa???

out in the North East where i am we have alot of DIPS in the road... the pavement will be smooth than it will dip quickly basically a bump in the road/dip and that shocks the crap of the transmissions parts. Maybe it's different where you are and have nice roads I dont know... all i know roads in the NE suck

More than likely caused by driving a very high hp car with "too much lowz", no suspension travel, axles binding from said, no lsd, and/or poor driving skillz. Sure transmissions do just grenade. However there are MANY guys who drive HIGH HP VW's to their fullest potential, and somehow dont have these issues..... Your results may vary

If i had to do it all over again, i would've went with a 16vT. Yea you'll get a buttload of power from the VR but the 16vT is cheaper and the combinations of head/block you're able to use. For the amount i paid for my stage 3 Pro-MAF kit with upgraded turbo, i could've had a full FSI swap and still had money left over for upgrades. I could've had a fully built 9a with a huge turbo with standalone for the money. I wanted to build a turbo VR again.

My next project will be an 8v or 16v for sure!

I've watched your dyno vid at least 100x Your spec's are similar to mine.

    To the SRI guys,
Have you considered a bracket to hold the plug wires? I hate to have mine flapping around or ziptied together. I'm also thinking about mounting the coil somewhere on the PS side of the bay.

It is bored out to a 3l, mk4 gasket, JE pistons, all ARP bolts, corrado tranny, LSD, southbend stg5, garret gt35r ball bearing turbo, tial 44mm wastegate, custom 3" exhaust, open dumptube, custom intercooler piping (just re-fabbed), godspeed radiator and intercooler (not sitting crooked anymore lol), atp exhaust manifold, C2 stg2 440cc setup, manual boost controller, hks ssq recirculated bov, flipside customs intake manifold, flipside customs reinforced clutchfork, billet crack pipe, low temp setup, and samco hoses. The car sits on bilstein pss9's, schmidt modernlines 15x8, and new toyo t1r's 195/45/15. Poly mounts and bushings throughout. I'll snap photos of my bay soon 'cause I just re-did the IC piping. For sure over 450whp, but we'll find out soon.
