Sup fellas
Can everyone chime in on phones?
Your cell phones...what does everyone use?
I'm ready to drop this iPhone off the empire state building but before I do that, I need advice.
HTC one vs. Samsung Galaxy 4 vs. Nokia Lumia
Who has what and what's good/isn't?
Thanks
#5544
You still Rockin an iPhone! Playedddd
I have the galaxy note 2, it's huge but if you have big boy hands it's no problem.
The HTC one is nice, well built, great camera but battery life isn't great and it doesn't have a removable battery and no micro sim card for extra memory.
The s4 is the latest and greatest. Excellent battery life, camera, removable battery and micro sim if you wanna throw in a 32gb card like myself.
If your a heavy user I'd go with the s4.
The note 2 is still a great choice and can be had for a good price now.
Forget the lumina, it's camera is the only strong point. Android is the way to go, they are innovating everyday.
My setup

I agree with him on android being the way to go.
I've had android since the original motorola droid came onto verizon. It had a lot of potential so stuck with it. Android at this point has surpassed iOS and will be getting much better.
S4 is a great phone, but i don't like the build quality (use of plastics) or the extras they put onto the android OS. You can get one with vanilla android for $650 tho.
I've had great experience with the build quality of Motorola phones, but not so much with the software end of it *in the beginning*. Now that they've been bought by google the software updates have been quicker and their software is the closest out of any manufacturer to stock vanilla android. Keep an eye out for their next phone coming out called the XFON or x-phone. Should have a 1.7ghz processor and be on att, spring & vzw. They make very sturdy, durable, man-phones. ARG ARG ARG! Motorola phones are built nice. I had the droid 2, droid X, droid x2, galaxy nexus, galaxy s3 now the note 2.
The X-fon is pretty weak on specs compared to what's on the horizon Imo. I think it's gonna be more or a developers phone but time will tell.
Samsung puts a lot of bloat but some features are nice. I always root and unlock the bootloader immediately. I haven't taken an OTA update in almost 3 years.

OK guys, thanks for the input.
I was leaning on the HTC One a lot because I like the form factor better.
I don't like the plastic feel and lightness to the S4.
It's a lot bigger than normal and feel its not durable.
But, maybe I can throw on a case that makes it more solid?
Either way, though I like the HTC one better, all my tech friends are telling me the S4 is the way to go.
I can't wait for the Nexus drop.
I've got a chromebook at home from Google (Samsung made) and it's pretty solid.

HTC One is basically an iPhone running Android in terms of construction and features.
I'll be getting an S4 on June 1st. If you're going Android, it's the best hardware on the market right now. I plan to root it and get rid of all the bloatware and bs that Sprint likes to throw into their UI and onto the phones.
What are you looking for? best specs? expandability? best battery life? size?

best specs = check
expandablity doesnt matter to me bc I don't store stuff on the phone, everything goes up in an app or a cloud for me.
best battery life does matter to me.
size is my biggest gripe with this phone.
It's a big ass piece of plastic and its the only thing that makes me think twice about it.
The One, has a better form factor in that department.
But you make a valid point, root it, blow away the bloatware and its solid.
#5551
i'm ignoring the plastic vs aluminum hype. my htc evo is plastic and i have 0 issues with it... and it's been dropped a few times.
i usually use a cover/case anyway, and it wouldn't surprise me if they make an aluminum s4 cover after all the "ewww it's plastic" reviews out there.
HTC One:
+Aluminum
- weaker hardware
- enclosed battery (ala iPhone)
- no SD card for expandable memory/external storage
personally, i'll trade the feel of aluminum for the increased performance, SD expandability and removable battery.

Droid Razr Maxx is still the king in terms of battery life.
HTC One vs. S4 in that dept is a wash, but neither beat your iPhone most likely... razr maxx is the only one i know of that can outlast an iPhone.
i haven't heard the One yet, but i do like the concept of the speakers being located at the front of the phone vs. the rear like all others. but i don't know if the sound is really any better. the speakers could still be crap for all i know. it doesn't seem to be something too many people are giving much attention to in reviews.
do you have a trial period at all? some providers will allow you 30 days to swap the phone if you don't like it (i think sprint does this, not sure about verizon or at&t). that might be a good way to compare the S4 and One to see which one you like better.

S4 might also have some features you may or may not care about:
IR blaster - basically allows it to act as a universal remote for your TV.
NFC chip - allows you to pay for things (at equipped stores) by just tapping your phone to the CC machine (like you do with a chase card). also, this is what allows you to transfer files between phones/devices by just touching them together. (both devices have to have the chip).
both of these are a + for me. I'll use the IR for my LG TV. and my Nexus 7 tablet has an NFC chip that should let me transfer pics, etc. between devices.
it might not mean much for you if you don't plan to really use either feature.

Well, the thing is, I'm due for an upgrade.
And because I want an even bigger discount, I would like to trade my iPhone in toward the value.
(I get 50% plus corporate discount)
