Thread: Black Rear bumper protector for the Q5

  1. 07-27-2010 07:01 PM #1
Got my new Q5 and I wanted to protect the rear bumpers top from scratches and found that Audi does not sell one that will protect it well. They sell the clear bra type that you can still scratch the bumper with it installed. So I did some research and found a solution that looks good and will not break the bank. I purchased a rear bumper protector for a Nissan Versa. It is just the right curve and size for the Q5. I am posting pictures so you can see the install.

Great idea, but I'd prefer it to be wider than that.

    +2 for black car.

Other colors I'm not sure which is best, either black hard cover or transparent "bra" they use on front of cars. The transparent film is thick enough to give scratch protection.

My front is full of rock hits that to next new car, I will get the front transparent bra to shield the paint.

Just my opinion, but I think that looks terrible on the rear bumper and would look even worse on any other colour. No Audi includes this sort of accessory because it totally detracts from the look of the rear bumper. (The reason why there isn't something similar installed from the factory.)

I had a fairly extensive 3M Stone Guard package installed on my Q5 right after I bought it. One of the many benefits was that the installer was able to cut a custom sized piece of protective film as large or as small as I wanted for the rear bumper. I'm not sure what kind of film Audi uses for their accessory Load Sill Protective Sheet, but what I had installed has kept my rear bumper scratch free after constant abuse.

My Q5 has had two minor brushes from other cars on the front end that the stone guard has saved it from as well. Both hit and run incidents left visible marks on the film. I'm much happier replacing a piece of film than repainting a part of the car.

EDIT: Sorry about the semi thread-jack. I just want to let you guys know how well the 3M Stone Guard works to protect the car, whether it be load scuffs on top of the rear bumper, stones from the road or other minor impacts.

You can get those on ebay too. They're made in China with knockoff S Line embossed into the part.

You know what else looks terrible? Lots of scratches from actually using your car. I want to keep my Audi nice, but I also ave to go to Home Depot and take the dogs to the vet. Qs and avants are nice, but also working cars.

There is a company in England which makes a full width protector for the Q5 in black. Cost is about 90 Pounds Sterling.

what about this thing? It looks like this adheres inside the car though, not sure if it's adhesive tape & if it's the right width for putting it on the outside.
