This one is a 1980, in Indiana Red. And it hasn't been driven in 15 years. The inspection sticker on the windshield is from 1993, and the license plate expired in 1995.

      The good:
-Very little rust, despite being from Pennsylvania
      -Paint is pretty shiny
      -Interior is very nice
-It was stored indoors (in an airplane hangar) since it was last used in the mid 90s

      The bad:
      -Automatic transmission
-A mouse chewed at the wiring, and the PO didn't quite finish fixing it
-A/C compressor is locked up (not really a big deal, but this list looked kinda short without it)
-Dash was replaced with one from a Mk2. However, if I can find a suitable Mk1 dash, I'll have another decent dash for one of my Mk2s.

And so, on with the pics! These are from after I washed 15 years of dust off of it this morning.

      The worst of the rust:

I put a battery in it this morning so I could see what works and what doesn't.

      What works:
      -Interior light
      -Radio
      -Blower motor
      -Headlights
      -Turn signals
      -Front wiper

      What doesn't work:
      -Rear lights
      -Fuel pump

Also, I found a jumper wire going to the radiator fan, so I suspect that the fan switch is bad. I'll have to check that out later. Gotta get it running first.

So this is the Mk1 you were telling me about at Cincy! Cool to see you nabbed it. I'm sure you'll have no problem finding a nice Mk dash for it.

What a beauty! If that is the worst of the rust you have on that color car you are very blessed! That paint seems to have held up well. SOOO jealous of the red interior!

      Thanks everybody.

I think the condition of the body owes to the fact that it's spent half it's life thus far in indoor storage. I hadn't seen it in daylight until today, and I honestly was not expecting it to be anywhere near this nice.

Great find Chris. So, two of each now? Going to be hard deciding which to bring to each gathering now. How does it look underneath?

      Yep, 2 of each.

The underside looks pretty decent from what I've seen so far.

      Thanks guys!

Next step is to check for power at the fuel pump, and the rear lights. I suspect that's the stuff the PO was working on rewiring after the mice chewed it. Apparently mice love fuel systems, as a mouse chewed through the plastic fuel line and fuel pump wiring on my Jeep a few years ago.

Then I'll work on getting it started.

Maybe I'll have it on the road by h2o, we'll see.

It seems to me that a turbo would work really well with the automatic trans.
      Just sayin'.

But the automatic trans probably wouldn't work too well with a turbo.

Congrats Chris! It would seem that you have one that you can build off of that will take very little to resurrect.
