This information has been posted on this forum in the past.
At this point in time I can not access it - this is a re-post to answer an off-topic question in another thread.
US VW Radio Navigation MFD2 DVD

Converting factory aux input supplied with Premium 7 (both single CD and six CD)

The factory aux connection supplied with the above head units is incorrect for the MFD2 DVD.

MFD2 DVD has more inputs than Premium 7 (both types).
The Premium 7 (both types) support Aux -OR- iPod connection (via external CD changer connection).
The MFD2 DVD supports Aux -AND- iPod connection (via external CD changer connection).
As a result, the nav's aux uses a different connector that would have no place on a Premium 7.

To convert for MFD2 DVD, the aux connection needs to be removed
from the 12 pin blue connector on the back of the head unit
      found in positon # 6

and moved to a new 18 pin connector (VW PN 7M0-035-727 ).

      ---

Remove the 12 pin blue connector from the head unit, identify pin positions # 2, # 8 and #9,
and mark the wires in those positions to keep track.

Disconnect and disassemble the 12 pin blue connector to insert or remove pins.
The outer shell has ridges molded inside that when slid in place restrict the pins from moving.
It is a simple disassembly, the inner black pin holder slides out of the outer blue shell.
There is a release tab on the open side of the blue shell

red arrow is release tab for the inner pin holder, blue arrow is connector to radio release tab

and a circular opening on the other side

Pull back the release tab for the inner pin holder and push a small tool through the hole on the other side
to release and slide out the inner section.

Once you have removed the outer shell, use a pin removal tool to extract pins from the holder

      move wires
from 12p blue connector pin 2 - to new 18p connector pin 2 - AUX Ground (black wire on the kit referenced below)
from 12p blue connector pin 8 - to new 18p connector pin 11 - AUX Left (white wire on the kit referenced below)
from 12p blue connector pin 9 - to new 18p connector pin 12 - AUX right (red wire on the kit referenced below)
More than likely the wire color codes on your factory aux connection will be different.

To select the Auxiliary input, first select the CD page, and then select the Aux soft key on the lower right

The factory iPod connection is the same for a Premium 7 six disc, Premium 7 single disc and MFD2 DVD,
      plug and play swap.

      ================================================== ==

If you have a factory iPod connection and want to add an aux input too,
an inexpensive kit is available from VW,

Reference VW aux install instructions for US MFD2 DVD
FYI This is the flip side of the instruction sheet in the pic of the aux kit (above).
The side pictured in the pic is the EU instructions, NOT the SAME,
EU MFD2 DVD aux uses the blue connector, but different pins

Whenever I post screen shots like the one at the head of this thread,
I inevitably receive private messages asking how to reach that screen.
Accessing the MFD2 DVD service menu

The Service menu on the MFD2 DVD Navigation head unit
is accessed from the System settings screen.
Find the Syst. settings screen in your MFD2 DVD
via [Syst. Settings] soft key found on various settings menus.

      Syst. settings

Press and hold the [Factory set.] soft key and do not release it
until the screen changes to Service menu. (about six seconds).

If you release to soon, you will reset your unit,
but if the service menu appears, nothing is reset.

      .

      Checking firmware version

First access the service menu as per above.
Select [System info] which will take you to the first Version page,

      Version (page 1)

Select the down arrow soft key on the right
to reach the second version page

The firmware version is the last two digits of the entry titled HW - HU.
In the screenshot below the US firmware version is 47.
      Current US version is 50.

      Version (page 2)

      Note
The setting displayed at Cntry codes can not be changed in the head unit.
It is changed in another controller and the nav and radio both use that controller's setting.
The non-US country setting is what completely disables the nav nag-screen.
Chalk one up for US tort laws.

Alternately, you can always read firmware version with a VAG-COM

      No fault code found.

BTW US firmware revision 47 does play red book audio CDs in the internal DVD drive (nav is disabled)

Another tip that may not be so obvious.
Under some conditions it may be desirable to turn the nav screen off
while still using the radio and / or nav.
The nav voice prompts continue to function with the displays muted of course.

Press and hold the Day / Night switch (circled in the pic below) until the radio beeps, then release.
You will see this messge until the screen blanks.

Touch any nav key on the dash to restore.

Volume and radio control through the steering wheel buttons
does not release the screen blanking

At night in heavy fog on rural roads or similar conditions
I will turn off both the nav screen and the MFD

and crank the rest of the instrument lights to minimum.
