Thread: Official MKIII DIY and Helpfull Hint Thread

Hybrid View

  1. 08-06-2010 12:39 PM #1
Since the forum changes, there are MANY things lost..and MANY things we just cant find.... I thought it would be a good idea to make one "Official Thread" correctly formatted..Credit where its due..and helpful with NO arguing and nonsense. Please follow the format I thought would be best and keep all discussion in the DIY threads rather than here. This thread is for links to DIY's only. Please feel free to add any DIY's or helpful hint LINKS here and this way when someone needs a DIY. . . We can direct them here or to the actual post in this thread......

easy to follow format example below.....

NOTE:: Image is taken from persons ACTUAL thread and the persons ACTUAL host so we know if the pics are still working!

How to put a stock 98+/MkIV non-monsoon radio in your Mk3

VW Part# 000-979-133-B (Only need one pigtail with the clip on the end)~$3

    Procedure:
-First, pull out your stock radio and unclip everything.
-Next, locate the black wire harness. Take the yellow pigtail with clip and stick the clip in pin#5.
    Connector should look like this:
    -----------------------
    I 1 I 3 I 5 I 7 I
    ==----------------------
    I 2 I 4 I 6 I 8 I
    -----------------------
-Next, take the tap-in connector and connect it to the big red wire with grey stripe (out of pin#7 I believe). Be careful not to damage the wire too much.
-Now test connect your new head unit and you're good to go!

    And

Credit goes to Pfeil for this one!

Btw...you need 2 keys for it.

    1) put one key in the ignition and turn it to the on position

    2) close the driver door

    3) put the other key in the door and hold it in the unlock position until you hear 3 short beeps. then let go and leave the key in the door.

    4) press the unlock button on the remote. the car will beep.

    5) hold the door key in the open position again until it beeps three times.

    6) you're done!

thanks for the explanation. I know on one of the earlier pages there was something about it being against the rules to sticky this thread, but I never knew why.

someone should post a DIY for an mk4 remote working on an MK3 without modding the circuit

The first option is pretty much impossible. The second one has been covered, and it's ridiculously hard.

This thread is pointed to IN the FAQ. Additionally, Travis and I are working on making those links in the FAQ functional again. It'll just take time. Somewhere during the forum switch really messed them up.
