Id think the dealer should change the MU out regardless. mine said, "whenever you are ready I will order the part", they are not going to do any testing at all I just said, I experienced this unsafe issue.. my car didnt respond in traffic and and almost caused an accident.. and they will just swap it out as the campaign suggests. or ID hope.

Schwung, next time you take a road trip go see a vw dealer and see if they can at least order the part for you or get the ball rolling, maybe they can get the claim started and have your local dealer do the install when the part arrives.

or you can bribe your servicewriter

    good luck

    2. or get a big burly car guy friend to make it happen for you? there's plenty of online documentation to support your case for an MU swap.
unless you have a load of mods and they're not mod-friendly... PITA, but you maybe still can temporarily unmod the car if you think the dealer will be ok with that.

or are they claiming they cannot reproduce bad DSG behavior? that IS vw policy, to only proceed with warranty work if they can reproduce symptoms in-house. if this is the case, it's on you to figure out exactly what it takes to reproduce the symptoms. then you provide them with the procedure in writing and they can't decline... as long as you have VWoA behind you. call VWoA if they continue to give you trouble.

but you already know all this, right? i'm probably not understanding your full situation.
Well, the car is virtually un-modded to date, so that's not an issue. It has been dealer serviced since I've had it. I might need a team of bouncers to go with me next time! I just made an appointment today. I have been told by others to pursue it w/VWoA if they continue to give me a hassle about it. I KNOW it needs to be dealt with, as I have all the same herky jerky symptoms as the rest of you guys. It is worse in the cooler weather though, so the extreme heat of late has lessened my issue.

I shouldn't even get started sharing stories on the dealer idiocy I've experienced. Sometimes I can't believe that stuff actually happened. A few visits ago, I had them put the car on the lift and I helped work on it myself! Then they were all googly eyed at the chick messing with her car. Another time, I was waiting on them, and they had a very upset customer who couldn't figure out her iPod dock to save her life. So I showed her, then ended up giving the whole service department the iPod tutorial. I made them comp my oil change for that one. Doesn't VW train these people???

yikes... i keep hearing of dealer incompetence. for now i'm clear cus i've found my dealer situation and my non-dealer mechanic as well. seems like many dealer, vw or not, have major issues with finding or paying quality staff. good luck though, sounds like it's time for VWoA to step in. last time i had an issue (which ironically was dealer stubbornness regarding an MU swap), i called VWoA and they set the appointment at the dealer for me. within the hour the dealer's receptionist called me to confirm the appointment for DSG evaluation. and all i did was call VWoA and tell them basically what you're telling us here.

thanks for the advice cheebs! I called my Charleston dealer today and they quoted me $290 for the Haldex service alone So now I'm looking to get that done elsewhere too but I may just call VWoA first and have them step in regarding the MU and just have it all done at once.

FYI, my independent mechanic who specializes in German cars, he is doing my 40k Haldex service next week for $160. i'm supplying the oil & filter. seriously, more than $100 less than the dealer's quote.

Today? I'm cleaning it after a 2 day drive to Albuquerque from Reno where I just bought her. Best road trip ever! If I have time maybe I'll run in and get her registered. But first thing is to give her a bath!

Awesome, man. I know that's a big undertaking and you're probably really proud of the result. I would've done the same thing, and in this area, my next house will likely require it.

Good show. If you plan on updating the inside, keep us posted with photos! I'm always looking for ideas for my own garage. Wondering how much I'd have to pay to get it insulated and walled.

That's what I'm afraid of. Destroying my spine while attempting to give the car a thorough cleaning.

    4. full service, oil, fuel & oil filter, cabin filter. ok.
    5. rotated the tires. NO had a wicked vibration at 75mph.
    Today:
    1. unrotated the tires. YES we're all good now.

I hear they delicately buff the paint with steel wool.

edit: I cleaned my car today hoping I would test fit some wheels at Achtuning, but now that's next week. So... at least I get a clean car for the weekend.
