Below is a link to a video I shot of my auxillary water pump, screaming like an effing banshee. And it's definitely the auxillary pump--when I pull the electrical connector, the sound stops instantly.

Note--this was happening with an old water pump, so I bought a new one, installed it, and am getting the EXACT same noise. That's what the video is of. Ugh.

I've heard a rumor that if there are any air pockets flowing through the pump, it could make this kind of noise, but if that's true, how the heck are you supposed to install it? I thought it was just pull-out-the-old-one-and-put-in-the-new-one?

      Thoughts?

My aux water pump makes the same exact noise, but not very often. On rare occasion after running the car for a long time it will make that sound for 20 seconds max then stop. Can't really help you on the take out/install issue. i would assume the same as you.

Air in the system is the culprit. Burp the system to ensure coolant running through the pump as that also cools it and keeps it from blowing up.

It was air in the system. I ran the engine with the expansion tank open, adding cooling as necessary. I let it run until both fans were running, then topped it off again, let any remaining air burp itself off, turned off the engine, watched the level, screwed the cap back on.

      No more screaming banshee.
