Back last october I built a performance 2 liter. here is the build thread.
http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...B6T-%28teal%29
well that car was rear ended in the begining of may.
Anyways, shortly thereafter, I picked up a 97 vr jetta. At first i just drove it and swapped a few things over to it here and there, mostly interior stuff, but them I got to missing dailying a fun an good handling car.
this was the start.
first things first was to swap in my neuspeed exhaust and TT high flow cat off of the 8v...
then i replaced the water pump.
Yeah i know looks like a good build so far... haha but it is. First things first.
Ecodes are a must.
I managed to find an ecode locally, and salvaged one off of the wrecked car.
Threw the azenis on my extra set of bugattis...
started making my clone manifold
almost ready to be welded up.
Welded.
Got her all polished up nicely.
While i was at it i fitted a 1.8t air intake temperature sensor.
Next came the brakes.
Brembo slotted rotors and Hawk HPS pads.
The other track toy...
More to come.
thats all for now.

bump for doing work man
ya gonna have so much fun with this one![]()

Very cool dude. I like that you drive your cars the way they should be driven. Make a VR video like you made your 2.0 videos.![]()

I'm actually tracking the vr this weekend at putnam park and I'll definetly have an in car camera going. I just can't wait to get this show on the road with this build. I almost have everything. More to come.
#13
its way easier than you think. Raise the motor up, and pretty much just pull the water pump out then replace. Its not worth the 300 bucks in labor.
only takes an hour or two.

Hardest part is beating the bitch out with a flathead and a hammer. I've seen them sooooo seized in there.

Updatesss....
SO with this build i am doing a ported and polished big valve head. Lightweight valvetrain and lifters.
The head is inthe machine shop right now and should be done by mid next week. In the meantime i have been collecting other parts to make this happen.
Eurosport intake.
Ported lower intake manifold.
Autotech 10 lb flywheel
forge motorsports coolant hose kit.
Newsouth gasket.
I did the 1.8t air intake temperature sensor in my clone manifold.
Another shot of the manifold.
Neuspeed strut bar off of the old car...
More to come!

thanks for the manifold and downpipe! i still can't get the bastard on there. pretty excited to see what you do with this one though!![]()

Looks like things are coming together nicely. Lookin forward to this build.
I never knew about that M3! An '89 Red M3 is my dream car, as seen here in the BMW Museum in Munich:

looks good can't wait to see it completed
what suspension are you running?
#22
nice e30 m. It's a shame we won't see your ronals on that 5x100 vr![]()

mk3 is stoopid

E30 M3 is badass.... Hennarot, Cinnabarrot or Hellrot?
good handling car? a MK3? LOL.... But it can be made to handle with enough hard work
what kind of suspension are you running? spring rates? swaybar sizes? The Azenis are a great tire but they are dated. I change to Dunlop Star Specs from Azenis on my old MK3 and I LOVED the upgrade in grip and sidewall stiffness
I now run 245/40/17 squared on my E36

Ha, I know about good handling cars.... The m3 is one of the better handling cars ive been in. It is bone stock minus the simpson cam harnesses. The m3 has nitto nt01's in 235/40/17.
I wish I could keep the ronals... I want them so badly. Btw, they are for sale... PM me.
I have the azenis on the jetta cause I had them on the 2.0 and i picked them up for 220 brand new. Screw street tires for next season. I'm running 225/45/15 nitto NT01's most likely on stock bugattis. For everyday driving I'll be running yokohama s.drives on wheels that I havent decided on yet. I can't find very many lightweight wheels in 5x100.
I do not know what suspension I am going to be running. I want something that is fully adjustable so I can have the car corner weighted. I'm debating between koni coilovers(budget minded, I had koni yellows on my last car and I liked them alot) KW v2's or v3's. Maybe clubsports? Someone tell me some things about KW's. I've even thought about koni yellows and ground control coilover sleeves with some custom spring rates....
Either way I'm going to be using ground control camber plates up top, and from what I can gather they pretty much replace the factory strut bearing and rubber bushing, I will be running the r32 and poly bushings in the front control arms, 25mm neuspeed front swaybar, and I swapped my rear swaybar in from my last car... and strut braces are all getting transffered over from the last one. I don't really know what else. I'm planning on going all out with this one.
The m3 is an early 1990 without an airbag it is all original bone stock, with 106k miles. It barely sees any miles since it is trailered to the track.

Sorry to hear about the car.
I remember the build. It was done meticulously.
Good luck with this one, and the M3 is gorgeous.

this is awesome dude! way to keep rollin w the punches. that vr is gonna be fantastic! i was happy to see your brake upgrade! how do ya like the brembo slotted w hawk hps pads? i'm putting mine in after i decide which ss brake lines to get. i have so much work left to do. it's a shame our garages aren't closer!
what size wheels ya lookin for? you should get some 16inchers for the vr i think! i'm thinking enkei RPF1 in 16x8!!! super light for less unsprung weight and super well made rims for track days! get them in the black or some other special finish too!!
![]()
i don't have a lot of details on them for purchasing but the 2 websites i got the pics from carry them...i can't speak on how reputable those vendors are.
enkei RPF1
16x7 ~$208/ea
13.7lbs each!!!!!
16x8 ~$230-255/each
~14.5-15.6lbs?
OR look for some kosei k1 ts rims as well! in 5x100 not sure if they only run 17x7 for smallest diameter...those only weigh 14.6lbs though!!! 16inch would be ideal though for performance i'd say.
here's another option....can you tell i'm bored with silver wheels?
OZ ultraleggera
16x7 $203/ea
14.8lbs

take the road less travelled...

RE:E30M3
wheels, you want to go 17 on this car either the Apex ARC-8, Kosei K1, Dforce LTW5. All are under 18lbs each and are pretty strong
susspension: sounds like you want a GC coilover conversion kit with the custom springs like you state... I m not sure what rates the E30 M3 chassis like but I opted for 400lbs/in front and 500lbs/in rear for my E36 (3100lbs with an empty tank, full interior and no spare in the rear)
KW should be good too but I would not run their springs. You don t want progrssive springs for performance. a goodf hard linear spring is what you need. A generic 6" spring, 60mm ID from Vogtland (TC kline sells em) or Swift Springs or Hyperco (sold by Vorshlag) is the way to go..... GC's springs are decent at fighting coil bind but Vogtland and Swift springs are better and lighter
Sry but I'll pass on the Ronals, I d prefer a set of D-force LTW5....17x8.5" +41mmET and only 16-17lbs......very very very good
RE:MK3.... .sounds like you got a good handle on it... How big is the rear bar? I had a 28mm rear bar and I could make it rotate by just lifting off the throttle mid corner.... great for autocrossing but it could be snap oversteery when I wanted it and much more predictable than a P-car (especially 1st gen 911)

I dropped into the machine shop today and got a sneak peak of my head...
And V, I am considering 16 inch rpf1's for the vr, or OZ ultralaggeras. in 16 inch, not sure yet though...
The hawk pads and brembo slotted rotors work great, the only problem is the damn abs the car comes with, I unplugged it, but now it prematurely locks up the rears due to the lack of a proportioning valve... so I am also doing a proper abs delete as well.
