A friend of mine was driving home when he noticed a mass of people gathered outside a VW dealership in Long Island , there were people and balloons outside. He figured it must be some type of customer appreciation event.

Upon closer inspection it looked quite different:

Being a VW Jetta owner I can TOTALLY sympathize.... this is probably the last VW I will EVER own...

Gas to Virginia too much for them? Or they're afraid the car won't make it down to VA?

Either way, I think parking it in front of VW of America would be more fitting. Isn't the dealer at the mercy of corporate in terms of warranty and lemon law?

i saw some guy with home made signs he printed out pasted on saturn, and he was sitting in front of the dealership for about 8 hours reading a book to get a message out. people complain about some pretty crazy stuff with their car and then call it a lemon. granted, the dealership can try to screw you too, but if you dont fly off the handle and start threatening legal action right away then most people are happy to work with you.

with the money they wasted on supplies and whatever their time is worth they could have just fixed the car or gone to a more accomodating dealer...

I doubt they would be making this much noise if their problems were that simply resolved. Not to mention a new car being a POS and piss poor customer service will make people go far out of their way.

A Chrysler dealer here had an issue a few years back, when a group of 20 or 30 owners got together and held a parade in front of the dealerhsip. They spend a Saturday morning driving around the dealership with sign, balloons, and loudspeakers. Protesting warranty claims on peeling clearcoat. i'm assuming Chrysler said no warranty.

I'd be pissed, but not to the point of demonstrating or protesting.

On a side note, I've had 4 VWs and never an issue. The newest being a 2005 Jetta TDI.

Wait, if the car is actually by law a lemon, then the dealer can't do anything but take the car back. The owners are most likely being typical whiny Long Islanders that think every thing is entitled to them since they live on NYC's penis. The fact that they own a vw makes them even whinier.
    so it goes... ಠ_ಠ

as much as I hate lawyers, it was far easier and more satisfying to spend $500 to pay a lawyer to file suit against GM for my troubles.

Within 3 days of the suit filing, I had a settlement agreement in hand which included legal costs, reimbursement for lost use...etc everything I ever wanted in the 1st place.

this "lemon" thing in front of the dealership seems too much.

    OOOO STORY TIME!!!

    (Grabs carpet square eagerly)

On topic: I agree with Larry. Would have been much easier another way. Also, I've NEVER had a major problem with any VW. (And I own a Corrado..., but we've had 4 Jettas and a Passat in the family, some went away due to wrecks by my sister, including a very nice 2 door MK2 jetta ) I believe that if you treat a car right, it'll never break down.

EDIT: I love how the guy is holding up a piece of paper expecting you to be able to read it...

I've mentioned this in several other threads here over the years.

Basically, our bought new 01' Tahoe LT was very problematic. Exploding batteries, window motors frying, seat-belts discombobulating, and the final issue; A/C that was intermittent (this is a black truck in the HOT Vegas summers.....and not just no cold air, but complete shut-down/fan off crap).

in total the truck spend over 95 days in the shop for service.....not once did GM offer a loaner whilst I kept paying $600/mo for a truck in the shop.

I requested they buy the truck back at high book, refund the payments and we would be happy. GM refused. I thought this more than equitable, they disagreed...all the way up to a Regional Cust Svc Mgr.

I was so pissed that I had a friend who's an attorney file against GM , the Dealership, and GMAC. I sued for loss of use, costs related to loss of use, breach of contract, fraud, depreciation of value, and pretty much everything except loss of consortium .

Once I filed, they knew I was serious, and in the end the cost to settle was less then to fight it and lose...worse, I would have taken MUCH less had they just paid me back for the 3 payments while it was in the shop and the fair value of a low mileage (it had 9K miles in 18 months) vehicle.

    truly stoopid on their part.

THUS why I will NEVAR buy another GM product....I refuse to be treated like crap.
