I think if he went to his local Diesel store and tried on a pair, he would be happy as a clam.

I'm the same way.. really picky about fit, but don't want the flash. I've been wearing a few different pairs of Diesels (I like the fit and non-flashyness of the 88z zatiny) and some Hudsons which are super comfortable as well.

Or you could get reasonably priced jeans... Naked and Famous is a really solid brand http://www.nakedandfamousdenim.com/
Naked and Famous and APC are about the same price, but Naked and Famous offers several cuts at a higher price point than APC's standard $165.

Last couple of years I've worn a couple pairs of Nudies and Naked And Famous. I have the Nudie Average Joe's in Dry Indigo Organic. They are a pretty normal fit I would say. Can be worn out on the weekends and probably could be pulled off as business casual or at least casual Friday. Nudie has a few washes on them now. I like the Raw personally but you can get various levels of fade. They start around $175 for the raw but you'll actually pay more for the pre faded.

Naked and Famous didn't impress me much. I got the Weird Guys in a similar raw indigo selvage. They stretched out in a bit of a weird way and got pretty bad "knee bulges", so they are now only really baggy in the mid leg area. Denim isn't of the same quality as Nudie either I don't think. I think I paid around $100 for them.

About 2 weeks ago I bought a pair of Rag N Bone R15. I love these jeans. They are a very average fit and nice and dark. Not at all flashy. They look great with a t shirt, and I've worn them with a button up and jacket and they look perfect for either occasion.

    Nudie Average Joes.

Rag N Bone- Not the exact finish I have but similar.

I've owned plenty of Diesels, and haven't liked a single pair.
Tried A/X as well, and they fell apart rather quickly.
I really like GSUS jeans, but they can be a bit flashy.
William Rast is another comfortable jean that I wear...

really digging how they faded for you. I was having trouble figuring out the different cuts on the site, what is the baggiest/loosest? i cant fit into any of that straight leg nonsense. really something like a levis STF cut would be great for me I think

On the IH's it is going to be tough to find something if you don't like the straight leg. Pretty much everything is straight leg or straight leg to taper. They do have a boot cut but boot cut is wack IMO

occasionally you can find them on sale.

Lonely...while fit comfort ect are subject to personal opinion it is just fact that Diesel denim is not the best denim out there.

I need to figure something out for good jeans.

My gap jeans are fine, but not super comfortable, my 7s are super comfortable but I've had 3 of 4 pairs rip in the 'crotchal' area for no apparent reason. And I don't like spending money to repair jeans that already cost $150+ within a years' time.

I too do not care for any flash, no stupid back pocket logos, no crazy washes (some whiskering is fine), I don't wear jeans a lot because of work and climate, but I'd like to have one or two pairs of nice, well made, durable, great looking jeans.

    These aren't too flashy:

    Nasty.

Anyhow, after some jeaneducation, I now wear AGs.
Some real work goes into these, fit, finish, quality, etc.

    Sooo comfy.

    Protege Straight Leg (more roomy)

    Matchbox Slim (skinny)

My two favorite Jeans are American Eagle and Express. They are both on the affordable side if you time the sales and what not.

I've never had a pair wear out in less than 3 years unless I did damage outside of what would be considered normal wear, ie working on a car :p

My favorite jeans are my 8yr old 7's. I think no matter what brand, the more "broken in" they are, the better.

Wish i could shop for jeans online, however not trying something on before spending $100-$200+ is just silly.

  30. 03-26-2012 11:29 AM #66
Levi guy myself, but I recently found a spot where I can get 7's for $50 all day long. I think I found my new favorites, very comfy and the fit is perfect. My wife always tell to wear them when we go out.

I always bust through the crotch seam of my levi's so I'll see how these hold up.

If you have problems with Levis don't hold up hopes on not blowing out the crotch of the sevens. While they are super comfy they are might from very light weight denim which tends to wear through very quickly esp in the inner thigh and crotch area.
