Reach through and do it by hand, a hood pop like mechanism, or more commonly solenoids.

Has anyone stumbled upon a bolt on solenoid from another vehicle? VW or not.

its not dead flat it has a slight curve to it. You can get a glass with no 3rd brake light and heater lines from africa....

Anyone have any good tips for what to do with the license plate once the hatch is shaved and there is no cutout in the bumper?

i've never understood why so many people have shaven their hatches... taken the time to lay down some clean paint... and ignored the slight curve of the tailgate...
bendy/warpy reflections == shoddy work.
sorry, but it's simply a fact.
