Lot of things cheaper than I thought.

The brake work is ridiculous though. Is the brake system tied into something else?

The brakes are tied into the high pressure hydraulics that handle load/ride leveling. Also the fronts have TWO calipers per wheel.

Looking at those prices makes me wonder if service for a Turbo RL would be similar in cost. Tgose seem to be 75-80% depreciated and although they lack the classic beauty of your 67 they still have quite a bit of presence.

Yet the overall costs are quite reasonable. You also have the fact that you're driving a Rolls.

Are those costs with labor, or just the price of the parts? Were these parts purchased at list price from a dealer, or from aftermarket suppliers, or with a discount.

Also, the fan clutch was only $38? The one for my 5.2 Jeep cost twice that.
      Deal with it.

All of the amounts are parts and labor using three of independent shops.

ok, that makes a bit more sense.

Still think the owner got raped on the ball joints and door seals. Unless it has some insanely complex door seal and ball joint.

theres a jag replacement that fits and is about 10x cheaper than the identical rolls branded fan clutch. the indy shop was probably smart enough to lead him toward the cheaper part

also... theres an early 90s turbo bentley for sale on RROC right now as well. those are MUCH more expensive to run. the guy on there has also posted his costs (dealer serviced with original bentley parts) and its approaching 6 figures as i recall... just since the late 90s. big money

all of the soft rubber parts for these cars are really expensive. its not like resealing an old mustang

door seals for older vws arent too much different in price though - if you can even find them!

Does this car not have the little headlight brush things?

      Those are so choice.

      I want a Rolls now.

thats probably on the way back burner for now... at least until its on the ground and running and we see if we have any more mechanical things to shake out. a grill is easy to find and fit so im not too worried about getting my hands on one of those...

no headlight wipers on this guy, i think that was only for the later shadow 2s...

I might have mentioned this before, but aside from repair costs, I think it would be awesome to daily one of those.

The headlight wipers weren't a common option, and they didn't start until the 1978-1980 Shadow IIs; the wipers mounted where the side intakes are on the Shadow I.

we'll see how its running by then, thats kind of a long drive! ha

and yes, very much enjoying the non-ball bearing tool box. i dont really care that it takes 1/10 more effort to pull out the drawers... the money i saved was better spent on more tools anyway

just got word back from the trans shop that the rebuilt unit is ready, along with 2 other trans worth of spare parts - that will probably get sold on RROC when the time comes.

hoping to pick everything up friday afternoon and take some shots.

found a guy on RROC who will let me borrow a crank bolt socket so i can get runout on the flexplate, and use it while installing the trans.

if i can find enough time this should be wrapped up sooner rather than later

also poking around the car last weekend reminded me i probably need to order some random tuneup parts for when this hits the road - spark plugs, air filter, new plug wires.

thanks for reading and ill keep updating as we make more progress

Always wondered if you had a build thread for this car, or even pics. Subscribed
