Let's see, how can I put this?

    F-----------------CK YES!!

Both are great actors and are some of the least sh-tty Batman villains left. I have complete faith that Nolan will make Catwoman hot as hell and interesting. Michelle Pfeiffer will be hard to beat though.

Yeah, that's how bad Catwoman is; Michelle Pfeiffer's catwoman sets the standard. Not that Pfeiffer did a bad job. She did what she could. Catwoman is just a dead-end character that grinds the movie to a boring halt.

    Good luck, Nolan.

As long as she isn't a love interest / villain it'll be fine. If he tries to do both like Burton did, I may cringe - he needs to pick one or the other.

the caption attached to that photo reads: "This photo was taken mere moments before this fan's brutal beating. He remains unrecognizable to everyone he knows."

I agree. Bane was such a one-dimensional character, created during that whole era where the comic biz was trying to cash in on its popularity. Special covers and big storyline changes...that was comics in the early 90's. Bane was a marketing ploy, to sell Batman books for a year, leaving readers to wonder when Bruce Wayne would comeback.

And because he's such a silly character with his Lucha libre outfit, I'm really interested to see Nolan make him his own.

Well, maybe Bane's lack of character development and history in the comic will work for Nolan. Gives him kind of a blank slate to work from. I don't read comics. Would the fanboys really care if Nolan's version of Bane doesn't stay true to his origins?

Most often, movies don't live up to the books or source materials they were based on. But every once in a while, they're even better. Look at the Jason Bourne series. The books were awful, but the movies were much, much better.

we arent concerned if he lives up to the comic version of the character...

our problem is that bane was one of the WORST characters to come out of comics....why put him into a movie franchise that has been simply amazing?

I don't think that you understand what I wrote. I'm suggesting that Bane might be a great character for Nolan to work with because:

-there apparently isn't a lot of history with him
-he's not a fan favorite, therefore he won't have a bunch of fanbois talking about how wrong he is portrayed (like Wolverine)
-he's a poorly developed character which leaves Nolan a lot of room to make him into something different

Read this very carefully. He can make Bane something entirely different from the comic character. He might do a better job with him than whoever created him in the first place.

Bane's history is not really mysterious in the comics. His origins, history, and abilities are well-known. That said, Nolan may still be planning to take a lot of creative liberty with Bane.

I didn't mean that he has a mysterious backstory. It just sounds to me like no one would care if Nolan changed him up a lot. He hasn't been around for a long time, and he sounds like he's one dimensional.

A movie maker changes or reenvisions a long time favorite comic character at his own peril. Sometimes they get it right (Nolan's Joker), and sometimes they get it wrong (Wolverine, apparently - judging by all the bitching and griping about the movie).

Nolan might see an opportunity to create a whole new character out of Bane because no one would get bent out of shape.

Leave it to comic nerds (no offense ) to still find a reason to get pissed, though.

Comic fans are definitely nitpickers--I'm certainly one of them--but some things are worth changing and some things aren't. I felt Jackman's Wolverine was fine, especially in the first two movies. You can't really buy a muscle-bound 5'2" guy being Wolverine on film. You can buy Jackman even though he's taller.

Anyway, Bane is fair use for re-working. Just reading through the latter part of the io9 article above, I mean, what the hell, Bane trying to find his daddy and him and Batman being half-brothers...what idiot writer thought that was good??

you are right, i didnt read all that carefully. i was just taking issue with Bane having a fanboi following. at least, i hope there arent true Bane fanbois....if there are...they would be the af wearing, lifted truck driving, douche bags of the comic book reading nerd hierachy.

wait..Bane and Bats are half brothers? really? i never knew that. when did that jem of sh*t story arc come about? was it within Knightfall? if so, i may have to did out that turd and read it again.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt will appear in The Dark Knight Rises
    Role unknown as yet

    By Josh Winning | Feb 2nd 2011

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is increasingly one of the most interesting actors working in Hollywood, which would explain why Chris Nolan wants to keep him close by casting him in The Dark Knight Rises.

The pair have just worked on Nolan’s other massive film Inception, and Deadline report that Gordon-Levitt “will be in [Rises] when Nolan starts production this spring”.

Who’ll he be playing? Nobody’s talking yet, though internet speculation has long been rife that Gordon-Levitt could tackle the role of cheeky villain The Riddler.

Knowing Nolan, though, he won’t want to bog down his last Batman gig with three new villains – he already has Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Tom Hardy as Bane.

For now, then, it’s a mystery. But still the kind of excellent news that has us feeling certain Rises can match Dark Knight for awesomeness. In fact, file this under ‘most awesome news we’ve heard this week’. Yes, really.

It's sort of old news. He was rumored for The Riddler for a long time, but with them already having Bane and Catwoman, I think it would become too much with The Riddler. This is also just a rumor and many sites have already brushed it off saying if he is going to be in it, he will have a regular role (not a hero/villain)

They'll bring him in as Joker. He could easily Heath Ledger's brother. I really hope they don't use him for that though.

As for Bane, I give Nolan the benefit of the doubt on pretty much everything. Who thought they could pull off a reasonably convincing Two-Face, or that Joker should even be touched as a character since Jack did it?
