Yup, this is one of the reasons divorce/seperation rates are so high. People spend far too much time engrossed in a dream (wedding, perfect house, perfect kid), andt they don't take time to find the right person to marry...I have seen many marriages come and go...my wife and I are pretty good at predicting outcomes within our social circle.

For me? I think more people should try to buy American/Canadian built cars. The world is eating us alive, and all people can say is "My mom's 88 Caravan was a POS so I am buying a KIA"
We here in NA are losing big time, and our citizens have been burned too many times to help out any more....

Also, the old adage that an engagement ring is supposed to cost 3 months of the man's salary is not only stupid, but disgustingly so. I know a woman who let it be known that if her boyfriend ever proposed to her with a ring that cost any less, she'd say no. No problem, because he lived at home for years and banked most of his paychecks, so when he did propose, he got her the 3-month-salary rock. I found the whole situation pathetic.

edit: I should mention that this is obviously a very popular opinion with my guy friends and married family members. But most unmarried women I know think I'm out of my mind.

I know, I know. I am ok with a Toyota built over here, and wouldn't buy a car built in Mexico. Most consumers don't give a crap, though. If the consumer made it a priority when they purchased, manufacturers would put more focus on it.

Don't flame me for the 2 Japanese cars in my sig. As a younger man, I bought these becasue they were great cars. Who knows, I might still make the same decision today.
But as I get older, and have risen in the ranks at my company, I see how hard it can be keeping jobs over here, when your competitors jump ship to China/India/Mexico.
I take pride that we employ tons of skilled labor here in Canada, but that kind of national pride is a lost art, when every customer drives you to the nickel.

These men an women are our family, friends, and our customers. What happens when our economy is based only on spending? Oh wait. we saw that.

You're not out of your mind...I'm glad I married my wife when we were both young and poor. It was about us, not a crazy ideal that the man must pony up for the right to marry a woman. What happen when you base a marriage on such shallow things? I guess I answered my own question.

FYI, it's not an 'adage' per se, but a marketing scheme created by De Beers diamond company.

On topic, I don't think transgendered people should get to choose what pronouns I use when I talk to/about them, as long as I don't use 'it'. I've been reamed verbally by two different people recently for calling a woman living as a man a 'she'.

As a Christian, a vast percentage of the members of the Christian faith are horrible examples of human beings - by extension, Athiests are just as bad.

I think if you're a gang member you should automatically eligible for the death penalty. I've never seen a larger group of uneducated, violent, misled, people in my life, literally willing to kill each other over a matter of a few streets. It's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen, and I really thing these gang members need to be eliminated from both the general and prison populations as they have zero intention of ever trying to become productive members of society. Just 100% complete wastes of life that do not even deserve the chance to reform.
