The bolt that crimps the battery terminal together to hold it on the battery broke today. I contacted VW and you can't just buy the bolt, you have to buy the entire cable, I don't want to spend that kind of money just because the bolt broke, the rest of the cable is fine. Any suggestions on what I can do to make the cable stay connected to the battery, short of replacing the entire cable or terminal?

      Thanks for your help.

Just take your old bolt and go to your local hardware store. May cost you $1.50.

Really? I can't say that I have ever seen this type of bolt at the hardware store.

This is the bolt I speak of:

      Sorry for the bad picture.

I had the same problem. I visited Danny at Berge VW to come to the same frustrating conclusion. This is how I fixed the same problem on my white Corrado. It's been this way for probably close to a year now and has never slipped off or given me any issues. Granted it doesn't look pretty so if you're trying to have a show car then you may want to go a different route.

I buy and sell cars. So if you need something let me know. I have cars, people want cars, I can sell my cars to people, that's basically how this stuff works.

Okay, cool, that seems like it could be a solution. Thanks.

The bolts for the battery cable are available seperately. In ETKA, the part number can only be found if you look it up for a 1997 Jetta. The part number is 3A0 915 138 and they are about $8. Mike Bayne at Peoria Vw has them in stock. 623-875-4005

Dude, you rock. I actually ended up buying a new battery cable. I just haven't gotten around to installing it yet. Good call on the part number though. Thanks.

Awesome! I was just thinking I was going to have to mill something out myself, however, hose clamp will have to do until I can get out to Peoria.

I spoke to Mike over at Peoria VW and he informed me that Berge did indeed have one of these bolts. So I went down and got one, but unfortunately it was too small. The bolt length was fine but the "T" part of it was not wide enough for my terminal Guess the hose clamp will have to work for now...

How? If the bolt doesn't pull the two sides together and tighten it to the post, it won't hold. If you just put a regular bolt on it, it will just hold the 2 sides were they are and the terminal will not be tight on the post.
