cleaned up some stuff today. I also put my timing belt cover on...im a little skittish about it. It seems as though alot of people are skittish about it because no one runs them.

I like the timing cover on...it seems more complete that way. But it's your car dude. Looks great by the way.

yea I definatly like it on to but the back bolt on my head is stripped out that mounts the timing belt cover. I put a corse thread bolt in it and it holds tight but it just make me nervous.

I just dont want to be going 60mph down the road and a bolt back out or something and the cover rub my belt till it breaks without me knowing...

Ahhh gotcha. Yeah...I'd go without it then. I was going to say before...if it's as annoying as a gas 8v with a metal cover, it's really just whether you wanna deal with it or not. Haha. It seems like it's just as annoying in a different way.

as long as you keep the fuel lines and air intake bits away from the belt it shouldn't be a problem

thanks.....I dont think Im going to put a turbo on it anytime soon unless I get it for really cheap or free. When I get back from Sowo I think Im going to tear the car down for a proper build. I hope everything goes as planned

I'd be far more worried about something getting in with the timing belt cover OFF and catching down in the pulleys stripping off a bunch of teeth causing major damage. Running the belt cover on a diesel is peace of mind.

thats understandable.. we will see maybe I can secure the cover some other way that would make me feel safe about it.

use the stock head gasket with head studs. the problem with the early motors was the head bolts, they were smaller and i guess didn't have the proper clamping power, later engines had 12mm bolts instead of 11mm bolts. early 1.6s also have the same issue.
