Thread: my volkswagen was stolen tonight in socal

  1. 11-08-2010 01:31 AM #1
I was at buffalo wild wings on citrus and workman in west Covina watching football with a friend of mine. We left and I realized I didn't have my keys so I went back to the table we were sitting at and looked around. We didn't find anything and I spoke w the managers. They said no one turned in any keys. So I had my friend drive me home to grab a spare key. When we returned, my car was gone. I was bummed w the idea of having to replace a vw switchblade key because of how expensive they are.... But I never thought that someone would actually steal my car.... I took a picture of my car in the parking lot while I was leaving, never thought it would be the last time I saw it.

It's a 2004 reflex silver gti. Black roof. Vw roofvrack crossbars. Lowered on 17" arrietas. No tint, no front plates. License plate is 5HRS162. If anyone sees it, please call the cops right away. I've had that car brand new from 6 years ago. Not just another car to me. I'm devastated right now. Police report filed. car was parked outside of restaurants outdoor camera's line of sight. management will check inside videotapes tomorrow.

I hope they find it. i dont care of its stripped, i just want it back.

sucks dude. good luck finding it, seems like it was most likely joy ridden from the situation so there is some hope that it won't be absolutely ruined

    My guess:

It will end up being found in Baldwin Park or El Monte (stripped or not).

A similar thing happened with a buddy's F-250. Granted, they didn't have the keys, but those trucks are rediculously easy to steal.

Point is, as messed up as it sounds, I hope best case scenario - you find it on the side of a highway in a day or two, with an empty tank, run dry by either crackheads or ******* joyriders who just needed a ride around that night, and that nothing is severely damaged (besides maybe a stereo missing if you had one)

Good luck with the recovery man

Noone should have to feel that sinking feeling of realizing your car's gone

  7. 11-08-2010 01:56 AM #7
yeah, i hope you guys are right. i will keep you updated. i dont think i really fully comprehend the concept of my car being stolen yet. will probably hit me like a brick wall tmrw when i wake up and see my car not there in the driveway.

Should have had a buddy stay behind and watch the car while you were gone so that when the person with the keys came out clicking the fob to find your car, he could grab the keys from them. It's what I did for a buddy when he locked his keys in his truck and left it running. I figured someone would throw a brick and take off, so I sat around and made sure it didn't go anywhere. But I guess you really weren't thinking about it being stolen. Sorry for your loss. Hope they find it soon and in one piece.

altho, that's the first time i've heard of that technique...

    1: steal keys from someone
2: wait till they leave to get spare
    3: steal car
    4: profit!
I'm always right. The sooner you realize this, the easier things will be.

Honestly, the best case scenario is that the car is never found, or it's totaled, and you can move on. You really don't want your car to be returned once it's stolen, unless there is something particularly special about it (and sorry, there's not).

I thought this was going to happen to me a few weeks ago. Shopping at BJs wholesale club and found my keys were missing when I left the store. Went out to the car to see if they were in the lock or on the ground. Nope. Retraced my steps in the store, no keys to be found. Thought my return to the vehicle 15 mins later would reveal an empty parking space. Luckily that didn't happen, so I called the wife and she delivered another set of keys to me while I sat by my car (along with my cart full of wholesale club purchases). I left a note with the club mgmt, and they found the keys a day later. Coulda turned out like your case.

Hope your car is found; sending good vibes your way.

i remember a similar story, my friend was in the city picking up chinese food from a local take out, he left his keys on the counter, and then went to work, he realized he had forgot his keys and went back to the chinese food place, they didn't have em and his car was long gone, 2 hours later he gets a call, his car was involved in a high speed chase in Harlem, they had crashed it to a bus stop and caused about 10k worth of damage to the car alone, it was a 2000 Maxima.

Your car isn't special, either. Sorry. But good luck getting a car back once it's stolen, with all of its interesting new problems.

Sorry to hear about your loss. It does seem a little strange that you took a picture of your car in the parking lot right before it was stolen? Is this something you do on a regular basis? You've had your car for 6 years and you're still taking pictures of it in random parking lots on random days?

Not saying that anything about your story is fabricated, but the picture thing seems a little strange

Hope you find your car in one piece though

I was curious about this as well; it is true that the pic is in the BWW lot (notice the trojan tire store):

That's too bad man. West Covina could get pretty bad. My co-worker's daughter has a Civic Si and they tried to jack it from the AMC theater parking lot. They effed up the door handle, roof and broke the ignition trying to steal it. I think somebody saw them and they took off.

Now that they have your car. They may have your registration (address) and garage door opener/keys to the house. Make sure you change the locks and reprogram your garage door as well.

I do it with my cars, and I'm a terrible photographer with mediocre cars. I really don't know why I do it to be honest.

It's a good practice. It's one of the few reasons I would want a fancier cellphone. Of course it'd be better if it included the license plates of the surrounding vehicles.

I mean no offense by this, but do any of you people have this newfangled invention called "pockets"?

I absolutely NEVER leave my keys OR my wallet anywhere else but in my pocket.

I actually have a hard time leaving my key on the keyhook at home.

I just looked at the info underneath your screen name, and you have the best taste in vehicles ever. I have a Corvette, and I had a Ninja 650 until 4 months ago when I was hit by an idiot driver and broke my femur (ouch!). The Vette/650cc bike combo was great while it lasted
