Really, someone would get the dashboard flocked?
Do you really want your dash to replicate your glove box lining?

Ok, so you do want it, get it done here.

it'd be nice and soft, for about a week. Then it'd get rubbed raw all over...

Is that what she said? i don't know anymore.

I think it's funny that so many "motorsport" show cars flock every interior part they can.

I've only seen one pic of an actual racecar with flocking on the dash.

    It looks like ass, IMNSHO.

My company does flocking... depends on which flock you order really and the process it's done. b4 I started working there I expiremented with it and honestly if you get the do-it-yourself kits it doesn't come out that right. Also Rylon fiers hold up and last 30x's more than Nylon fibers do. there's also ultra fiber which is great but the process is even harder and also cost 4 times more in materials then getting Rylon Fibers and also paying for the work... the only way to make it come out right is for you to use a electrostatic proffesional setup. That process, compared to regular kits, actually static charges the fibers with the help of the metalic paint, to fall strait up and down. that gives you a very smooth and also more of a suede look. doing more of the spray and stick method causes it to be more flat and also more of a rough texture.

If done right with the prep work and letting it sit for the proper time (8 days total) the product looks like suede without no seem lines you would get from sowing...

You actually never see this anymore in race cars bc mostly it's used on highly modified sheet metal dashes. most race setups use the top half. most of the race cars we've done more wrap it bc we can add padding to it. besides a small non glare benifit which isn't that much better unless you flock it a non black, it's really just for looks.

here's a Rylon dash from a 206 that we did in class:

and here's dash peices I got from a site that uses Nylon fibers, Nylon is alittle less fuzzy and more non glare:

only problem with flocking also I might add is that I think there are 4 companys (including the company I work for) who do it since there's not a big market in the states. I convinced my boss to start doing bc shipping parts to europe and back would get costly

There was a mk5 (from norway iirc) on some 19's with flocked lips at a swedish show this summer.

From a distance it looked pretty cool, i was like damn! i gotta know what kind of crackle paint that is!

You had to get up really close to see that it was flock

I like flock. Anybody ever see WRC? All those cars have it. And I saw it on some race cars while overseas and I think it looks cool.

if i was gonna build a gutted mk2 rally car, i'd have the dash flocked.
reminds me of the old rally cars from the 80's

Sweet to know there is a shop in NJ.

Too bad the "racekor" Rado doesn't have a "dash".

I would deff post up pics of the fully flocked interior I did for the mk2... but hey I'm stocking on parts for you guys to see

if the flocking is done with Rylon fibers it lasts for a very long time if it's not in a high wear area... so if you do a dash and use a lil dust brush you can keep it clean and never worry. honestly had it on my mazda project we built for the shop 2 years ago (MS3 with MS6 tranny AWD autocross car) and the person who now owns the car says still looks brand new.

I have used it in the center parts of doors wear your arm lays on. it smushes down and looses the look but it does still hold up very well
