My friends and I have spent more time in junk yards than most people might deem appropriate. Over the years we have seen ridiculous things, whether they were rare cars that should be cherished rather than junked (such as a 6 Series Alpina--yes, real Alpina) or cars that had been very oddly modified before or after they went into the yard (V6 early-80s Celica GT-S--not I4 or I6?).

Post up your finds, and remember, pics or it didn't happen (unfortunately I don't have pics of either of the above finds, but if memory serves correct they did happen).

    Opel Kadett C

    Creepy VW Bus

Don't remember exactly what this is

    T-Bird Hood Mural

Honda Z600 with trailer fenders as flares in a holding lot

Datsun 180 or 200SX (aka Silvia)

    Citroen DS

I have more, I'll post as I find them.

I saw a Martini edition 924 last week and thought to myself "Hey, I know what that is! Wait, where on TCL did I see this before? Thanks to the bump now I know. Scary.

I am pretty sure Ive posted these here before, but here is a pair of Nissan Vans I found a few years back. Sadly enough the white one sat at a local used car lot for years.....I always wanted to buy it then it disappeared one day.

Another Jyard rarity, how many people know that GM offered a factory 8-track player all the way into the 1.5DIN radio era (1982+)??? That is like buying a car today and telling the dealer " Get rid of all that MP3/CD/HD/Satellite Radio crap.....I wants me a Tape Deck!! "

Here's one one that got saved, by Reddragongti and I's roomate.
Unfortunatly, he let the plates expire, and it got towed and impounded.

    Here's some cool stuff:

    Cosworth engined 190E

    clean MGB

    Subaru XT

    XT's interior

    very clean E21

    924. This was the same day that two 924 turbos were also in the yard (but no pics. )

    and what could this be?

    its British....

    Oh, a Lotus Eclat?!

Wait, right there next to it, a second one!?!?!

How about a two door Toyota Crown?

Or this amazing aero device. It really was mounted to the car.

Full zender aero for an E21 we saved from the yard.

And the ultimate sadness for me.
My super rare N-package (base model) Laguna blue Miata, before the crash:

    And in the junkyard.

Keep in mind, there were only a couple thousand built.
So what happens to be in the yard at the same time?
A Laguna blue C-package automatic Miata...

My pics are MIA, but I found this car in a junkyard:

The Cadillac from the Niagara Falls Hard Rock. It was in much rougher shape than this photo- a total rust pile, with gutted interior full of bird crap. I was going to snag the door to hang up in the barn, but I didn't beat the crusher to it.

Wow, 80s GM 8-track. Good work.

Picked these up from off of an '80s Mercedes in the yard--

The Nissan Vanette, was bought back from Nissan due to engine fires. Check out 'Just a Car Geek' for more information.

Didn't think to take pics, but last weekend there was a late-80s/early-90s Cressida with 1900 miles on it. Toyota tech training car. So if someone wants an unused 7M-GE...

When I took my GM BSEP courses (General Motors bodyshop program) we used to have to destroy our training cars. There is nothing like taking a hammer and razorknife to a brand new Corvettes interior! We had one of the Beretta Indy convertibles too.

Junking is a great way to exercise, lots of walking.
Also supplements my income with these tough times.

reddragongti, that Martini Porsche and Citroen were at Ecology in Wilmington correct?

The two Lotus cars were at Pick your Parts in Wilmington (large yard on Blinn) a few months back.
They had 3 Corrado G60s, that we plundered for parts, only 1 was a 5 spd, the rest had auto tragics.

A few months back I found this Nothelle grill for a Mk2.

And before the grill, I pulled this G60 lump for a friend, mint interior with very minor crash damage. A 1990 Corrado G60 with 28K original miles, female driven.

    http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...-G60-in-So-Cal

I also found these uber rare Mk2 dash vent controls with on/off lettering.
I've only seen one other pair in my life.

On one venture out into Sun Valley, I found Bruce, the original hanging Jaws shark that was on display at Universal Studios Hollywood from 1975-1990.
The teeth have been replaced by someone at the junkyard, these are not original.

Also that same day, since the junkyard with Jaws was a domestic cars only (they also have movie prop military vehicles), we went next door to the import yard and found this wall of cars.

    http://blog.cardomain.com/2010/08/01...bros-junkyard/

This Fiat Multipla is on the wall.

Some hiolights from my favorite place:

It's owned by a crazy old bearded man who lives in a house in the middle of the junkyard. Nothing in the place is newer than mid-90s at best, and nothing has a sticker newer than 2000 so nothing has driven since then.

One time I found a mint 15x7 Alpina wheel for an E21. When I found it my heart jumped in my throat. I only found one and I spent hours looking to see if I could find the others and no deal. I bought the one wheel for $10 and sold it on eBay for over $130.

At a Pick and Pull half off sale over 9 years ago. I scored (5) E21 limited slip diffs. It was kind of strange to find that many all in one yard since these cars were commonly speced with open diffs. Nothing like finding a BMW diff tag with LS on it.
That was a long and greasy day. I bought them all for $200 and made something like $1300 selling them on eBay.

I also found a set of just installed Koni reds on a Mk3 jetta which I bought for $40 and installed on mine.

I still go to the junkyard a few times a month just to see what’s out there. If it looks like something I can sell on eBay for a profit I buy it. Honda, BMW, VW it don’t matter.

You guys are so lucky! I live in a place where thousands flock to the yards to keep thier cars on the road. If you don't catch a car less than a day on the lot you don't have much left to nab, and the texas heat, while keeping cars rust free, also bakes interior bits into dust.

    I'm a sad junkyard panda.

I found a rare Husco cup holder armrest made specially for a Mk2 (earlier ones without the larger seatbelts) and removed it with several angry yellow jackets eying me from the radio hole. I found the leather-wrapped 4 button wheel and chrome handles from a low-mileage Quantum.

California junkyards make me sad. At least the cars out here are usually too rusty to save. What I wouldn't do for that red E21...Some of my finds:
-A 356A burnt to a crisp. I still have the bumpers with overriders- definitely restorable.
-'75 240Z. Other than some wheel well rust, it was mint. That one made me sad. The wood shift knob and embroidered floor mats are in a friend's MINT 42K 280Z
-A Lancia Beta that was junked last year, very clean and complete, still there as far as I know.
-A clean original '74 standard Beetle that had an engine fire. original VW logo mudflaps, working spare tire windshield washer. I gutted that thing, and they charged me $50 for a Rubbermaid bin full of parts, including a split bumper from a '70 Camaro RS, which I sold for $150.
-Wrangler hard doors, $50, sold for $800 on eBay
-Trophy Recaros, $75. Wish I didn't sell them with my Caddy.
-'53-55 Olds spinner hubcaps, bought in a $100 load of parts, $500 on eBay

Oh yeah, tons of little stuff from mostly late model cars. I've made my living flipping that stuff for 4 years. I'm that guy that gets to the cars first no matter how bad the weather, and raids them as soon as they hit the yard.

That place is amazing. What a time warp. It's like every car I remember from the roads in the 80s is in there.

OP: I've never heard of that Lotus thing, and you saw two? And an 80s GM 8-track deck? Never knew that existed either. Great stuff.

My favorite yard, too. What a strange dude he is. He burns his trash, which is a trip to watch (and pretty awful smelling). One day, I saw him pumping out his septic tank right on the ground, which ran all the way down the road. He affectionately calls me "The Jew". He also doesn't seem to want to part with much.

Haha! A local! I found it becuase i drive on 24 a lot and always saw the cars in the wintertime. Very odd guy, his cats are all gimpy, but kinda cute in an "I don't want to touch you" sort of way. I hate buying stuff becuase he asks me to go pull it, then asks what I think is a fair price and without fail counters me with a 1.5x offer.

I love junkyards. Hate seeing cars that look like with a little bit of work they could be back on the road.
