      And now.

Note he actually didnt use the junkyard car as the base. He cut the body panels from it and put it onto a regular 500SEC.

The conversion was performed on 1985 500SEC with a kit produced from an 1983 500SEC AMG coupe saved from the crusher.

The donor was picked and pillaged pretty well before getting a hold of it but fortunately all of the vital bits were saved. 5.4 AMG modified engine, rearend and the all so gorgeous widebody kit. The donor had been issued a dismantled AZ and the decision was made to transfer all of the bits onto a healthy, California titled coupe.

Went to my local junkyard again, and found these rare birds:

'91 Sterling. No parts taken. Wonder why....

      '74 Jensen-Healy. No floor, and it wasn't cut-out, either.

And this...'84 Jetta GLI. Broke my heart.

Anyone know of pick and pull style junk yards in CT? I'd love to go to one.

Just depends on the junkyard. Most of the yards around here will not let you cut anything off of the cars in the yard. Which is a shame.

      Why? Just, why?
The things you listed arent exactly rare but what is rare is that its a round wheel arch. Only out about 1.5 years. People look for those versions all the time.

Meh, they're pretty rare around me. Considering I'm the only one who's been contributing frequently to this thread lately (with my findings of fairly-rare Midwestern vehicles), you're more than welcome to go out to your local junkyard and find some rare cars to post here as well....

The corner lenses on that Sterling are pretty rare. I never see them both intact on the few I still see on the road.

This thread is awesome... I have been to some decent lots in my time but never do I get to see anything like these... I need to find me a yard with some good Recaro's so I can snatch them up quickly... Very cool thread!

I was at this yard last weekend. Never expected to find a bone yard behind a cranberry bog.

Bug Steven's down the road has some gems in their back lot that not many people get to see. Was lucky enough to catch a glimpse...

same car. and since it's an x-1/9, that's definitely rust.
The good news: I gave up on being one of the cool kids!

Is that the same Bugs Stevens that is a NASCAR legend?

It was an '85 Bertone x 1/9 (no Fiat that year).

The rear quarters were rusty, but it wasn't horrible.

Looks like some dumb teenager had it and junked it when he got in over his head with upkeep; lots of skating and band stickers on the back. Car otherwise was untouched

I've never been in back... the few times I was there, they were a little much and didn't allow u-pull-it (which i understand for insurance reasons).

Have you ever been to the crazy old man in berkley? I posted his place early on in this thread...

Haven't checked this thread out for a while, some interesting stuff indeed. That widebody Mercedes is pretty amazing.

Went back to my locals this past weekend; there are a couple of interesting cars in the for sale section...

      Nova:

And a P1800 which I was going to buy on the spot, but then realized it didn't have a head... and was an automatic... and had a dented in trunk...

...and the rest, unfortunately, were in the yard to be stripped...

Datsun 810 sedan (there was also a wagon, didn't take a pic of that one):

Early Celica with a surprisingly clean, intact body:

Full set of P-Slots w/out center caps:

      70s Corolla:

Saab 900 Turbo, which on its own is semi-interesting, but what really caught my eye were the wheels--"Saab" and "Carroll Shelby" were stamped in the flange:

That's all for now... too many 280Zs to even take photos... I don't know how there are still any on the road considering how many we've seen in junk yards over the past few years...

Mmm not just P-slots but a P-coupe! 1986 Jetta base model Wolfsburg Edition, 2 door with EVERY bit of a GLI, but the name and the bigger bolster seats (special fabric on regular seats). Even a black headliner, the only coupe to get one. Red stripe bumpers and trim, spoiler, high compression 8v, sport ratio trans, stiffer suspension, better brakes. Mechanically a GLI 8v, with 2 doors.

Someone needs to save that Jetta Coupe.

And you should still buy that P1800. Remove the stock engine, do a B230 swap and bang out that dent.

Only geeks like me get excited over the P-coupe (because it's the only non-base coupe they made, but I'd swap it to a 16v and Trophies to complete the effect). How many miles are on it? Those might be the stock Pirelli P6 tires, lol.

      Volvo deserves it more

I'd love to have that jetta coupe. I almost bought a p coupe in highschool, I used to see it every few days on the way to a friends house, I finally stopped an inquired. They told me how much, I told them I wanted it and a week later when I rode by to pick it up there was a for rent sign in the front yard.

      Never saw that car again
