      More from my Chicago yard:

-I have a vague memory of seeing this car sitting in a local backyard; makes sense as I have never seen a car where every square inch of floor metal was gone.

Looks like it was daily-driven up until it got junked. The rear quarter panels had separated from the frame; typical 70's American car construction.

      - Grandma's Corolla. 67kmi. Automatic, no radio or AC. Never seen a cleaner interior in a junkyard. Maybe her heirs didn't think the car was worth anything

-Grandma's '84 Lebaron. She probably got hit and the car was totaled. Interior smelled like new. She didn't drive much either:

I gotta start taking more junkyard pictures. Here's that Cadillac from the Hard Rock that I found a while back:

In Southern Maine, there's nothing like this. Maybe in other parts of the state, but you'd better believe that the older stuff, if it existed at all, wouldn't be in such nice shape.

[QUOTE=Cubster;72762084]Found these today....both have been at a yard I regular just never took pics. The Fiat had no badges on it and I'm not sure which model it is.

Looks like a 1965 or 1966 Fiat 1500, one of the vintage car magazines had a detailed write up on a Fiat 1500 restoration (unfortuanately I don't remember which magazine).

If you look at the pics at the link below, the lines are unmistakable:

I have that book "Bugsy" written by Bones Bourcier. It is an awesome read on one of NASCAR'S best Modified drivers.

      Here's the pics I have…

This is a 75 Scirocco that was advertised on CL as a parts car. There was no structure left to it, it would have split in half if anyone attempted to move it. I did manage to buy the crack-free dash, windshield, and a couple of other things out of it for $40. Somebody else beat me to the rest of the 75-specific pieces (badges, door sill plates, cluster, wiper/turn signal switches).

      From Crazy Ray's, Edgewood, MD

It was pretty rough, but maybe could have been saved, at least fixed up to rat status. Plenty of bondo, interior was gone, birds had been living inside, and someone must have grabbed the bumpers and all the good stuff before it got to the yard. Once a car is in a junkyard in NY, it's pretty much impossible to buy it whole. They don't sell the cool older cars like they do elsewhere, which is sad. But most of our stuff is rusty anyway. This yard deals with mostly 90's-mid 2000's cars and this kind of old stuff gets crushed fast, as not many people are allowed to walk the yard so not many people even know the cars are there. I've seen a few dozen classics over the last few years, but most are crusty bondo-pits. The upside is I can buy the good parts for next to nothing and at least get them out to people who need them. Here is that Caddy in it's former spot:

Just went to the junkyard today. B&H in Elkton, MD.

I found this note written on the trunk of an e21

I went up on a hill in the back corner, where amongst a dozen minivans I found the coolest stuff in the yard.

For whatever reason, they let me walk around. Really clean yard, very organized. Had a beautiful 944 Turbo, Passat VR6 and two E30s (both 'E') cars.

      Yay, US E21 bumpers!!!

Isn't that Etienne Aigner-Edition quite rare?

Can sheetmetal be carried out of the US in a luggage? That red rust-free Fiat 128 on page 3 is still haunting me...

Not in the rust belt. Back when I lived in Wisconsin, I was rare to find anything pre-1990 that was anything but a beater on its last legs. When 10 year old cars are already rusting significantly, a 20-30 year old rust free car is really unheard of in that climate.

Quick question. How much should I expect to pay for an OEM jack and tools at the junkyard? Thanks!

Some really interesting cars were in the yard the last few times I went out--

In a holding lot, a 968 and some kind of old American:

In the yards, let's go Euro first--a couple of 914s, a Manta A Rallye, Maserati Biturbo (interior pic), Volvo 242GT, BMW 320i with molded-in spoiler and side-exit exhaust, Corrado, and a Rover (!) 2000TC:

Some Americans--I spend my time in the 'imports' section, but I did notice a V8 4-speed Mustang II King Cobra and a huge Cadillac coupe:

And finally, my most recent infatuation, vintage Japaneses. A couple of 70s Corolla variants, a bright green Z, 2 generations of Corona coupes, Mk1 Supra Liftback, Datsun 310, and a Datsun F10, which blew my mind--I'd never seen one in person. Also, a 90s Celica, which isn't interesting to me on its own, but in this case... scissor doors. Because we keep it classy in Long Beach.
