Wow! Thank you for all of the overwhelming support.

Greatfox, great catch! Glad to hear you're still taking care of her. I think of MKII often...What a small world!!

The original kit was removed from the donor, molds were made from them and then mothballed. The original AMG rear quarters were bonded onto the OE quarters and they would have been destroyed if I would have attempted to separate them. Besides, I'm proud to have #1, the very first repro kit mounted up on my coupe!

Here are a couple more photos...

Thank you for saving that car. It would have probably been easier to buy a more complete, running car, at the expense of the junkyard car being crushed.
I'm sure you'll make a healthy return on your investment in the future. Both monetary & karmic.

OK, that sort of AMG is why I bought my old Benz, and what it was unfortunately lacking.

    Great rebuild

and just to clarify, all of the AMG vitals were all removed, then documented, some reproduced and the donor carcass was ultimately scraped.

the recipient, my coupe, has been wonderfully cared for over the years, always in California and just made more sense transferring all of the bits then bringing the found coupe back to life.

    the remains

    the removal

    the recipient before

the recipient prepped for the conversion with euro bumpers installed and bundts in place.

Your coupe before looked so clean I'm surprised you went through with cutting it up.

thanks! it wasn't a decision that came easy...

the coupe was due for paint/euro bumpers and in the end there really is no comparison.

beautiful, I love it! I just sold a bunch of AMG parts for an old W123 model what I had brought back from Germany. Curious, why you went with the original orange front blinkers rather than the clear ones you had on in an earlier picture?

    Thanks again everyone, I'm floored!

I think I know the 560sec Wide body above. Belongs to a fellow enthusiast. Regardless, that would a fine example of Gen II +86 European market Wide Body. Often found in Japan as well. Though Japan had their own AMG division back in the day and offered a one piece wide body specific front bumper.

Good eye, the Mercedes lurking in the BG of the rear arch shot is a friend's 300CD that I've infected with the MB bug, lol.

The Benzworld link as provided in the OP is quite long but detailed and has some really good info about all things wide body and pre-merger AMG.

    http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126...-nix-wide.html

There's also a condensed version with higher rez photos located on the MBCA:

    http://www.mbca.org/forum/project-ar...ide-body-story

    Re the slushbox...I've got plans.

Thanks again for all of your support and please don't hesitate to ask questions.

Sooo nice. My favorite MB other than the original Gullwing.

There's a beat up dark blue AMG widebody SEC running around locally. Chipped and faded paint, but the original 5 spoke wheels still on it. Looks a little sad and I'd love to take it off the guys hands...

This one has been on the web for at least a decade, and was one of my early favorties in teh '90s:

I love cars, but the problem is they are like schroedinger's hobby. They're always in a quantum superstate of being both awesome and a huge waste of time and money... until observation momentarily forces them into one state or another.
