speaking of color matched side markers, has anyone here in Canada had theirs done yet?

I'm looking to do mine (DBP) as soon as possible. I emailed John (whom is an oft-talked about sidemarkers painter present on both fora) and he wanted $150 shipped to Canada for a new painted set - that seemed absolutely crazy to me.


By the way, did we not get accounted for in GB#7 Dan?

I had a MkV GTI with colour matched from ESE Tuning and the shade didn't quite match up and he knows about that, and I also think he does good work from what I hear. ESE has colour matched for our car at $119 + shipping. I was just wondering if anyone had got them done here in Canada.

I dropped mine off at a local shop and should have them back in a couple of days. We'll see how it goes - did the same thing with my Jetta a few years back and they turned out perfect.

I ordered colour matched side markers from John. I just tracked them and they should be here in a couple days. He paints both sides of the lense so light won't shine through. Also the markers he paints are oem ( I've heard some aftermarket ones dont fit 100%). I saw pics of his work online and it looks great.

Also, anyone know if WAV and/or FLAC music files are supported on the RNS 510 via SD Card?

I believe the rest of the capacity is used by the nav maps and data.

In regards to audio formats, I'm pretty sure it doesn't support FLAC or WAV.

I currently use a 16GB SDHC Class 6, SD card in the RNS 510. I find that loading music on to the HD is painfully slow. Also, the 30GBs are reduced due to the maps and other base hardware on the system.

fellow owners with LED taillights, are you guys coming across flashes on the back when you start your engine? Is this because it's a coding problem? thanks in advance!

I have blacked out LEDs with rear frog. Mine only flickers when I turn them on and it's only the left reverse light that flickers one time then stops. I've yet to have them coded properly, The dealership tried doing it but had no success. They told me they don't deal with aftermarket products that's why they couldn't do it. Also my outside LEDs are not as bright as the inner ones. I believe all these problems are fixed once coded properly. I'll be taking my R to an aftermarket shop. Spoke with the owner and he says he knows what coding needs to be done to fix the problems.

Just got my taillights, does the delievery also include the customs' invoice or does it get mailed afterwards without you know that you have to pay?

I got my tails 2 weeks ago and didn't have to pay any duty at the time, nor have I since. I think I was one of the lucky ones that got away with no duty charges as others have reported. Some people have been charged and others haven't. Maybe you got luck also.

I noticed the flashing on start up as well when I first installed them. I think it's to do with coding. Seems like it's part of the self-diagnostic the car does on start up and the effect with the LEDs prior to coding is the flickering then the "check bulb" messages on the MFI. Haven't noticed it since I coded properly.

Thanks - ended up going to H2Sport for software upgrade - APR. Tom there was exceptionally helpful and took the time to explain and demonstrate various aspects of the R engine pros and cons tuning. Great experience and highly recommended as several others have also said. Thanks also to Jouko for guidance and pointing me to Tom.

Not sure what you mean by brightest colour, but you are correct in that you will no longer get the bulb out error message or indicator light on the tach. After coding, all will be fine and it will be just as it was with the stock lighting

Golf R LED Tail Light Coding

O.K. I keep reading here on the Canadian VWVortex website about the coding issues, and that you need to buy, and get certain things to fix the LED Tail lights. I understand! My question is, is there any place, or anybody that can do it around the Toronto area? I live in Mississauga, and I have the LED Tail lights installed on my car now. They work, but the bulb error is on, and my left reverse light does work. Can someone here tell me (maybe thr21), if someone around the TO area can fix this for me? I'm o.k. for now, but I would like to get this issue resolved soon. Let me know asap!

You don't need to buy anything - anyone with a vag-com can fix the bulb error. As for your reverse light, you will have to check and make sure that all of the wires are snug on the left harness/adapter. Otherwise an RMA may be in order.
